I think it might be worth joining but Katew says that it's a bit noisy and evidently the furnishings are a bit plasticky.

Re: Challenge 292: The caveman cometh
First to enter the neolithic era this week was Babybiker, with a very convincing entry - excellent body hair, and a terrific mottled fur coat (both Alien Skin?). I like the way he's holding the axe in both hands, as well, and the shadows set it off well. A little more raggedness needed in the hair and beard, perhaps - the Smudge tool would do this - but otherwise perfect.

A number of prehistoric animals from laddition, with a lot of body and head hair on the caveman. I'd use the Dodge tool to let some more light on his body, though - he's almost all in shadow, and needs some of the lighting that's on the mammoth. There's also something awkward about the way he holds the axe: put the handle behind his body?

An entertaining scene from GKB, complete with camp fire and curing bear skin. Not sure about the tufty approach to the body hair, unless the caveman has galloping alopecia and his hair is falling out in clumps... but I do like the way he's tucked in behind that rock.

Good to see Eggbox back after a long absence - and with a really good gag, the caveman having invented the wheelbarrow before the wheel. Except he's altogether more Cherokee than Neanderthal: more body hair needed, and perhaps a less manufactured loincloth! Welcome back, Ted.

A terrific idea from tooquilos, whose caveman is cured of his stoop by a prehistoric osteopath. But it's in the still version that we can see all the extra detail - the brilliant telephone number, the embossed lettering, the spines fixed to the wall, the osteopath diagram inside the doorway... genius!

An excellent entry from eblyth00, with detailed body hair and especially fine face and body hair. And that's certainly a funky pair of shorts he's wearing - I think my son has a pair just like it. The only thing that jars slightly is his shadow: in the background, all the shadows are coming from the right, so your caveman needs to cast one in the same direction.

Some serious ingenuity from Ben Mills, who has brought his caveman bang up to date and placed him in, er, a women's rugby match. Fantastic clothes fitting, and perfect scale: he just needs a shadow to match the others. Although I have to say, his resemblance to Gordon Brown is somewhat disconcerting.

An antipodean caveman from vibeke - and what a perfect surrounding that is. I really like the loincloth and hair treatment here! He seems just a touch too bright for the depth of the forest, though: or perhaps he's a little too pink. A great sense of scale, though.

A really clever idea from brewell, with perfectly chosen models - the unshaven, shaggy quality of the man fits perfectly with the woman's view of him as a caveman. And I especially like the bubble treatment - a very appealing approach. Good gag!

A very compelling scene from Carlo Alessandro Della Valle, with not just an excellent caveman (I really like the beard and loincloth) but a deer being stalked in the shadows. I really like the extra detail here - the light filtering through the trees adds a great mood to the image, and the addition of the cave mouth through which we view the scene frames it beautifully. A very complete image, and it's certainly good enough to earn you a title - I think Compositore Eccellente, if my Italian is close enough!

Terrific facial hair and features from Nick Curtain, who has managed to achieve a monkey-like effect with great subtlety. I'd have thought more body hair would be needed in the Wiltshire climate, though - or at least a covering fur. I like the way his feet disappear into the long grass, and good lining up of the eyes on the horizon!

An interesting entry from redsnapper, whose shaven-headed caveman is carrying a crucifix to a sign marked Fire... there are clearly many references here I'm just not getting! Is that a tonsure on top of his head? I like the composition, but I think I may be missing the point.

Beautiful work from LonnieK : there's a textural quality to this that makes it really appealing, more hand-drawn than photographed. Would his head hair be that different in quality from his body hair, though? He looks a little as if he's had a perm - surely not! And I think he could really do with a rather larger club.

Hugely tickled by Neal's montage. Rarely have I laughed so much at a Friday Challenge entry! Of course, I've been avoiding mirrors ever since...

An interesting stab at a cave painting from Jota120 - is this Lascaux? I like the way he's been adapted to fit on the horse - very good altering of the arm positions. But to look more like a painting he needs to be more stylized: try posterizing him, for instance.

I like katew's idea of the caveman still living in a modern cave - and he's beautifully treated: the shading, the loincloth, and especially the hair with bones woven into it - excellent stuff. My only tiny problem is that he clearly isn't behind them, but in front of them.... move him a little further up the page!

A very complete scene from tomiloi, with a perfectly dressed caveman - great beard and animal fur - in a perfect surrounding: the carvings on the wall, the shadow and gourds, all work beautifully. But I'm most taken with the shadow of the spear cast on the wall, which makes a perfect shape. Fantastic work, and worth the second title of the week. So, let's see... I think Createur de Caverne suits a French teacher. Good work - and a good call moving the club back in front of the spear!

Fantastic realism from Emil, with a small amount of body hair but outstanding head and beard hair - and the loincloth is perfect. I like the way he's cut out, as well, with just a patch of grass to walk on - makes him look like a museum exhibit.

Great work this week.

Thanks again Steve for comments/suggestion. Yes is based off a 17,000 year old cave painting from Lascaux, SW France. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lascaux
Agree a bit more stylizing may help, .... but don't want it to look too genuine, as if !!

Thank you Steve. As you might have guessed, the main reason I didn't move him back a bit was that I would have totally messed up the perspective!

Thanks Steve, yes the body hair and fur were both Alien Skin filters, and the hair on his head was Chery Cole's (with added extensions) because he was worth it

Thank you very much Steve for the Caverneur title.

For the little story, I was on trip in the south Namibia last week-end, where I visited 'The Giants Payground' with many beautiful rocks. My cave is in reality about 10cm height... So my cavemen may had been a liliputian.

Bon week-end
