Excellent and funny works all. Sorry I can't contribute again this, but travel and now on a barge - longboat on Wiltshire canel for (as before) sister's big-one b'day party, and er no laptop, PS or connection, apart from this. Miss the wedding too. |

Re: Challenge 348: Last chance to buy
"It seems to me the locals are not looking forward to this splendid occasion", writes Marty. Well, any enthusiasm I may have had has been ground out of me by endless wittering about the wedding dress, why the last two Prime Ministers haven't been invited, speculation as to whether she will be called Princess Catherine or Princess William, and interviews with a group of elderly women from Portsmouth camped outside Buckingham Palace wearing plastic Union Jack bowler hats and singing Vera Lynn songs. I shall be spending the day at my mother's house, installing her new iMac while the wedding thankfully keeps her in another room. First up was brewell, with a rather fine decoration on a mirror - I like the date at the top. But why is the coach in the background in colour, when everything else is mono? A funny entry from Nick Curtain, with Buckingham Palace being overwhelmed by Space Invaders. Weren't you tempted to put a little perspective on the Invaders, so they match the angle of the building? Very taken with your second entry - perfect. It looks as if michael sinclair's souvenir condom pack is a real product... note the disclaimers at the bottom of the page before you rush ahead and buy them, though. A curious entry from Ben Mills, with a mangled portrait of the couple and a caption that seems equally mangled... asparagus? Ben, have you been taking your medication? A great angle on emanuelefrau's montage, with flag-waving grannies in the background - who seem to be rather ignoring the wandering royals. More flags needed! It took a while to work out what was going on in Vibeke's entry, because there's so much going on in that picture - but there are the two human figures, complete with Wills & Kate heads. I like the texture effect on the faces - but perhaps a white dress for the bride? A very fetching royal chastity belt from PDelavigne - I like the crest (based on Porsche?). But what's going on with your typography, with so much variation in the width of the letters? Add space, not width! A pair of royal lips from Eggbox - with a very realistic plastic container for the equally realistic lips (although I suspect these may be photographed). But 5 euros for a royal peck on the lips? Seems a bit steep. Most amused by Josephine Harvatt's royal condoms - champagne flavour, eh? "When it's time to take down the bunting", indeed. Best of all is the name, a cunning play on 'durex' that's also cod Latin for 'new king'... ingenious! A fine souvenir raffle from tooquilos, with a pair of royal bobbleheads being flogged off... great extra touches, like the Queen at the front of the queue holding the winning ticket. A terrific animated version, with Prince Philip jiggling the bobbleheads and giving the wheel a spin, ending with the Queen jumping up and down in joy - I like the grumpy look she gives him when he tries to interfere! A tasteful montage from andrnosenko, with Kate in a fetching ellipse, complete with crown, as William peers out of the Union Jack... nicely put together. When I first saw emanuelefrau's entry, I thought it was one of Gordon's - after all, he's the resident aviation authority. But why are their faces on the wings of a fighter jet? Why is it flying over (I think) the Andes? A glorious 3D render from Daniel, with a year's supply of Viagra spilled over the obligatory checkerboard table (why do 3D modellers like checkerboards so much?). A very nicely composed image: did you model the objects yourself? Or are they all assembled in Poser, as the set-up shot suggests? A brave attempt at commemorative coins from LonnieK and, having tried this technique myself in the past, I know how hard it is to create a convincing embossing effect from a photograph. This works fairly well, but those prominent teeth and eyes are perhaps just too strong... some day, I'm going to have to investigate the right way to go about this technique. Is the colour right? These look more like chocolate coins to me! For those who are somewhat baffled by sutex's entry, let me explain that, many years ago, a lion emblem stamped on the side of a fresh egg was a guarantee of its quality. To move from that to a lion hatching eggs is a bigger step, and I've really no idea how you got here from the royal wedding... I like the idea of Deborah Morley's royal-approved pickled onions in champagne - now there's a good combination. Couldn't read the small text at the bottom, though! And if the jar is standing on the flag, should we still see those elevated ripples in the flag? A rather well achieved pressed penny from Marty, with the embossed Westminster Abbey working well in the background. The figures are almost there, but is there something about the faces that makes them look recessed, rather than embossed? This really is a hard technique to get right. A fine dodgy Wills & Kate mug from BigVern, with completely the wrong characters on it - nice idea (although Cate Blanchett's shoulder could have been extended a little). A fitting tribute to John Sullivan, writer of the British TV comedy Only Fools and Horses, who died last week. "The Royal Wedding is all about money", says nerdtron - and he's absolutely right, as this beautiful entry shows. A terrific rendering of a credit card, tastefully spiced up. I think a little more shine on the lettering might make it look more metallic; but the angle, perspective, reflection and shadow are all spot on. A new member this week - and Ted Blair has found a good way to avoid the wedding, with a reclining chair complete with earphones and sunglasses to mask all sight and sound of the wedding. I like the extra touches - the switched-off and unplugged TV, the binned radio - but I feel a carpet would have grounded everything more effectively than a plain white floor, which has a tendency to make objects appear to be floating. Welcome to the forum, Ted! A very finely wrought Barbie Doll from salfordnurse, with Kate's face neatly plastified - a tricky operation, but one that works remarkably well here. Good work! Right - that's it for the Royal Wedding. Until the next one. |

Hi Steve I did rework the image to change the perspective of the invaders, but did not post as it was only meant to be a bit of humour in response to Ben's comments about malware. Glad you liked the proper submission. I know my wife's taste in toilet roll holders would come in handy some day. Enjoy the wedding!! Nick |

Re: Challenge 348: Last chance to buy
Thanks Steve. Cate should have been extended ... I shoulder the blame for that! Since iMac's are straight forward to set-up you will need to find some other things to do if you are going to be absent for more than a few minutes. Won't your mother be calling you in to watch? Being from Portsmouth I feel it my duty to apologise for the their "White Cliffs of Dover" routine. Now let's have a look at this week's challenge ... Cheers Vern |

Symbolism. In a drab grey world, the royals bring a bit of colour. Your comment has inspired me to make an addition: I put a floating trail of flowers, hearts and crowns as a wake behind the carriage - sacrifice subtlety to make a point. Thanks for the input. _________________ I aim to give pause. |

Re: Challenge 348: Last chance to buy
Thanks for the comments Steve. I did not build the models myself. I used to do a lot of 3D modeling before in connection with my work (using CAD systems such as ProE and I-deas). It is quite a time consuming task. Nowadays, unfortunately, I don’t have enough time (and patience) to do any modeling. However, I find it very intersting to experience with materials ... I am planning to install C4D on my iMAC in a couple of weeks! And why 3D modelers like checkerboards? The answer is easy: it adds perspective to the image … ![]() I am looking forard to watch your tutorial about reflection tomorrow. |

It seems that my eyes fooled me !!!It's a matter of advanced age,but I marked an appointment with my ophthalmologist! Finally was time to review the 62 years run! Talking about advanced age, Ted, didn´t seem the 70's face, for a guy who makes films ! He looks too much behaved for such, at least in that photo! Someday, I'll send you a photo of me in the 70's !!! ![]() ![]() |
