Some great work this week, as there is every week. Not had much chance for photoshop this week as I've been busy with my new Puppy. Just posted a picture of her in the straight photography section if any one wants to see her |

Re: Challenge 349: What Ted didn't do next
There's something about Ted's combination of hair style, tie, glasses and especially Zapata moustache that's so typically 1970s that it conjures up every top TV show from the era... as well as memories of old teachers. And it's precisely those memories that have sparked off most of this week's entries. First off was Sheilsy, who has seen something of the football manager in early Ted - and there he is, with Brian Clough's arm around his shoulder. It's a good effect, with Ted's head fitting neatly onto the new body, and I like the subtle colouring. The film frame is a good idea, but when adding the drop shadow remember it should go behind the film, but not inside the frames! A meticulous colouring job from Ben Mills, who has turned Ted into a seaside copper. The uniform still seems rather monochrome, despite the coloured ribbon: add a touch of blue to stop it being so black and white. And I'd lose that HSBC sign so prominently in the background, which detracts from the 1970s feel. A rather fine Country & Western album from Nick (yee-haa) Curtain, nicely coloured and well slotted into the new body. Just a couple of points: the hat really needs some kind of shadow, as it looks as if it's floating; the cord has to be refracted through the glasses - from this angle, it probably wouldn't be visible at all; and perhaps a slight smile on his face? A bit of a career change from Ted Blair, in which Ted takes on the role of Frank N Furter in the Rocky Horror Show. Have to say, it does look rather fetching - and I like the way you've constructed the extra Ted in the lettering. It's that woman again... GKB has Ted stepping in for William in Kate's affections. She does look quite happy about it, but why are their skin tones so completely different? A lot more contrast needed on Kate, or perhaps less on Ted. Good to see China back after a break - and it's a colouring job, with dazzling jacket, shirt and tie, and some rather fine tinted shades. When colouring the hair, though, don't forget the moustache! A glorious caricature from sutex, with a drawing of Ted emerging from, appropriately, an egg. An excellent drawing - is it a Liquified version of the original photo? And I like the Lion stamp on the bottom of the egg - a great touch. Good work! A good scene from bjansen, and a good origina photo. Ted's head seems a little big for the body, though, and I see what you mean about the skin tones. The trick here is to lower the contrast on the face before colouring, especially lowering the brightness, which will make it easier for it to take the colour. It's back to the 70s in style with Josephine Harvatt, who has created an advertisement for Ted's undeniably fashion sense. A good choice of font, but is the line spacing right on Man Power? Perhaps that should have gone right along the top, over Ted's head, as a headline. And, er, isn't he just a touch too yellow? Ted as a Rasta? Why not, says tooquilos. He certainly wears those dreadlocks well. An extraordinary animated entry, too, with Ted seeking enlightenment from an astonishing range of sources - and turning up in bands from Kiss to the Village People. He does make a terrific Elvis! Amazingly detailed work, Anna, and a charming story. Lovely. A new member this week, and LagoDiLecco has her sights on the Australian Labor Party of the 70s... now there's a trustworthy face. I'd vote for him. Welcome to the forum, Diana. Another subtle enhanced battle scene from michael sinclair, and rather a grisly one today: there's Ted right in the middle, sans glasses but still sporting that tash. He's rather yellow, perhaps, compared to the skin tones of all the other combatants; and shouldn't he be looking where he's wielding that axe? He nearly had that man's eye out. The second entry has Ted standing in for Rommel - you do like your military paintings, don't you! Tip of the week: if you're going to cover up most of the head with hat, you don't need to go to quite so much trouble when removing the glasses! I don't know what it is about brewell's entry that tickled me so much - I think it's the extreme straightness of the rest of the gang that makes Ted's extravagant appearance all the more entertaining. A great suit, and that's the first leopardskin cane I've ever seen! Ted does indeed make a good teacher, as Vibeke points out - and the colouring matches the body perfectly. The only problem is that he's still gazing at the camera: surely he should be looking at the students? LonnieK has gone for a football scene, with Ted given the sort of treatment we saw in over-retouched portraits in the 70s - all clean lines and no wrinkles. It's a great piece of retouching, but isn't this more the sort of shot we'd see cutout on a cigarette card, rather than against a realistic background? Ted Eggs stepping in for Paul McCartney - well, Eva Roth thinks it's a good idea. There's something a little odd about the shading in the image: does it need to be quite so dark on the left? I know the original was, but I'm not sure it helps Ted's face sit in there comfortably. Great album title! Deborah Morley has Ted replacing Eric Morecambe as the other half of the popular comedy duo, with terrific letting, banner and costume. Perhaps the Wise & Eggs text should have more of a gold sparkle to it, though? Ted does indeed make a good footballer, as Garfield72 points out. I like the way you've moved the eyes down so they're looking at the ball - a good touch. But his face is very bright, compared to the leg and hands: lower the brightness before adding the colour! Interesting that Sophie can look at Ted and think "right, ballet dancer it is" - have to say, it's not the first occupation that springs to mind. But there he is, face nicely slimmed down to fit the athletic body. Is the head too small, and too high, though? There's something about it that makes a slightly awkward impression... but the colouring is just right. Although I believe most ballet dancers remove their spectacles before taking to the stage. Ted as Bin Laden? Topical stuff indeed from nerdtron - and an excellent fit, that moustache blending neatly into the beard. Only the finish of the beard against the cheek is just a little too neat. By the way, Neth, if you replace http in your image posts with {img and then place another } after the url - replacing both curly brackets with square brackets - the image will show up in the post. A great 70s afro from Marty, with great tinted shades and a perfect fit of the head on the body. A really good job, Marty - I especially like the way you've done the hair texture around the forehead. Good work. A fantastic entry from puffin31939, with Ted's head given just the right texture treatment for this 1970s knitting pattern. It's a tricky fit, with the body being so much in profile, but it has been perfectly achieved in a truly natural way: it must have been hard to make that head sit so well on that body. Excellent! Emvee agrees with Tooquilos, that Ted makes a good Elvis - and here he is, a great fit on that body. I like the added lens flare, but for me the best thing is the lettering - it's a well chosen font, and the treatment is just right to suggest a glitzy lifestyle. Nice work. Ted's own entry shows him as a doctor - and interesting to see the hair colour, which is much lighter and browner than most of us guessed. A good fit on the body, but the face is much too bright compared to the arms: take down that brightness in Levels first! A subtle colouring job from Emil, and it's one that works well - I like the tones of the cheeks and the slight hint of beard. But when adding colour, you can't leave any part of the image in black and white: the shirt, glasses, hair and moustache really stand out as still being monochrome. I always begin by adding a fleshtone tint to the entire image, then adjusting it as necessary - that method does mean I don't leave any areas uncoloured. It's hard to look at BigVern's entry now and think that Jason King, played by Peter Wyngarde, could ever have been such a symbol of cool sexiness... but here he is, ably challenged by Ted, with a brand-new mullet and a remarkably well coloured tie. I really like this cover, but just one issue: if Ted's smaller than King, surely he should be behind him? There's more than a touch of Edna Everage to joeysala's entry, with spectacular lips, glasses and earrings... And it's certainly a look that enhances Ted's image. How about it, Ted? Fancy a complete makeover? Very entertaining work this week. Happy birthday, Ted, hope you had a great day. |

Re: Challenge 349: What Ted didn't do next
Wow! Thanks Steve. Fitting the head to the body required a bit of jiggling. I concentrated on lining up the eyes of the original cricketer with Ted's eyes and took it from there. I originally intended to use an authentic background but couldn't find one so I ended up using the knitting pattern instead. _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Thanks Steve. Barmy idea I know but couldn't resist. I double-checked the head and neck. It's all Nureyev's fault, he has a long neck but maybe the head is a tad too small. With regard to the specs, I couldn't resist leaving them on but you're right, I should have removed them. |

Thanks Steve. Ted being smaller than and in front of Peter Wyngarde is artistic license ... that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ***Whispers it's a fair cop you have me bang to rights (again) of course*** |

Re: Challenge 349: What Ted didn't do next
Looking at the Emil's enter, I could spot a little issue with this photo ! Confering it with the original , I saw the problem was on there! Is there something wrong in Ted's right eye, or not? In my guesses, the eye was changed, and who made it forgot about to the side line of the face ! Happy Birthday, Ted ! |

Steve - you said "There's more than a touch of Edna Everage...." I'd never heard of her so I Googled her and was really surprised! I also Googled the sunglasses - how coincidental is that! Man, wish I had known about her - I definately would've given Ted purple hair! Joey |
