Rembrandt is my favorite painter. His use of colors is amazing. The technique he painted the hair is ............ . Nice works from everybody. Here is my try: ![]() _________________ For me the creative process is more one of discovery than creation. - James Lee Burke |

Sadly I haven't had a chance to look through all entries. Some real stunners and laughs. Well done one and all. The magazine front pages were brilliant, images and text. I remember your skull Gordon and Josephine's following remark! |

Re: Challenge 362: Retouching Rembrandt
First to retouch the Rembrandt this week was jwhite, with an interesting entry - not much remains of the original model! More plastic surgery than retouch, but at least it keeps the clothing... good to see you back, John. A Parisienne from PDelavigne, with a slinky new body and a cute haircut. I like the feel of this, but make sure you match those skin tones: more red, less green. Good suggestions from Sophie produced the second entry - but still more red needed. A splendid third entry - lovely. A classic entry from Nick Curtain, with tasteful makeup and neat blemish removal. Do you think that nose could be tweaked a little? Interesting work from puffin31939, with completely reworked hair and an altogether more modern look. Something odd going on around the neckline: and is the whole body supposed to be that red? A major makeover from arya051, with a very much more groovy approach. I like the new hair, but watch all those straight lines on the neckline - some smoothing out needed here. Very clever work from tooquilos, who has placed the face onto a Bardot body - and a very good fit it is, too. Perhaps the whites of the eyes could be a little whiter? A great many extra entries in the animated version - fantastic! I think I've worked out who all the originals are... A very different look from Eggbox, with a thoroughly modern update of the original. Good matching of the skin tones, but your cosmetics seem a touch over-applied! I like the second entry - a great masthead - but the edges of the hair look a bit too crisp for my taste. Another magazine cover, this one from brewell. Her eyes are just a little too close to the masthead, I think, although the new eyeliner does bring them out nicely. Can't work out what's going on with that hair, though! I enjoyed LagoDiLecco's backdating of the Seventeen cover, with some rather good retouching as well. Couple of small points: the leading needs to be reduced on all those cover lines, and are you sure we need the curve on the masthead? Ingenious work from Josephine Harvatt. For those who don't remember it, i-D was one of the coolest magazines of the 1980s (and they even featured a spread on me when I launched The Truth in 1987). Their trademark was always to have their cover models and celebrities with one eye winking, matching the pre-emoticon styling of the i-D logo itself. Clever! I like michael sinclair's idea of using Rebekah Brooks' hair and body, but there's something rather gruesome about the end result... looks like a car crash victim who's been treated by a trainee plastic surgeon, don't you think? I like the Brooks clean-up in the second entry - a big improvement. But I think it's going to take more than that to keep her out of trouble. Good to see Hope Leslie Laust back after a break - and it's a gorgeous entry. You've really made a thing of beauty out of the rather plain raw material. Nice work. Some ingenuity from joeysala, placing the head onto the Mona Lisa body - and it's a really neat fit. Love the idea of a Rembrandt/da Vinci collaboration! Very attractive work from LonnieK, who has even added a canvas texture to the finished image. She's certainly much better-looking here - a neat clean-up job, with extensive remodelling. We haven't heard from Ben Mills for a couple of weeks, and it's good to see him back with this entry. Great matching of skin tones, but is the face looking in a slightly different direction from the head? A straight clean-up from Deborah Morley, and it's certainly fixed all her blemishes (including remodelling the nose). And I like the soft focus effect in the second entry - interesting technique. But why does she look so miserable? Come on, Debs, give her a smile. A big laugh at GKB's entry. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it tickled me nonetheless. Do you think a touch of colour in the skull might have helped? There's a rather cheeky look to James's entry - or is it just flatulence? Either way, she fits the new body rather well (but perhaps a touch too much shadow under the chin). The hair could do with a couple of loose strands over the forehead, too. Amazing movement in the animated version! A contemporary and rather doleful look to bjansen's entry, with excellent skin tone matching and a perfect angle on the new head. Should that jawline be made a little wider to balance the features, perhaps? Major alterations from Garfield72 - is the original woman still in there? I see you've had some trouble fitting the head onto the new body. Part of the reason could be that the body is too large for the head, and that could also be why you've had to taper the neck in that way to make it fit. And - why is it so red? There's an almost luminous quality to Emil's entry: the skin is so soft and flawless it's almost like wax. Certainly, a huge improvement on the original. A very interesting technique. |
