Re: Challenge 384: Squeeze my tube
Great texture and colour from ahmedalij, with a splendidly shiny golden bowl and novel hand-drawn taps. Slightly odd, then, that the toothpaste and tooth brushes are far smaller than is realistic, given the size of the bowl and taps. I like the texture here, but a couple of points: you need to take the drop shadow off the Layer Style for the tap, and add a shadow by hand. That way you can make the shadow further away from the tap as it comes towards us; as it stands, it flattens the whole thing out. And the plug hole really needs to be created without using Layer Styles, I think! I like the funeral scene in the second entry - but you can't flip a tube horizontally like that! The writing is backwards! I do like the way the theme is carried forward in the third entry, though.

Clever work from Bayer2012, who has stretched the tube to its limit - amazing, really, that it remains legible. I like the zoom blurred background, but I think some sort of floor would really help on this one - or at least a suggestions of shadow to stop her floating.

A demonstration of the perfect unscrewing technique from James - I like that subtle squeeze of the thumb, too. The toothpaste itself, though, seems rather flat, rather than rounded; and are you sure the shadow should be that strong?

A deftly removed toothpaste cap (and, indeed, teeth) from GKB, with a subtle reflection in the tiled surface. The razor seems rather small for the size of the toothpaste tube, though, and could do with its own reflection; and is the glass full to the brim?

A nicely distorted tube from PDelavigne. Watch the shadow on the toothpaste, though: it's much denser than the shadow of the tube itself, and don't you think it should have a blue tint to it? I like the removed lid, but it's too close to the neck of the tube for comfort - move it back a little to give it room to exist in.

A new member this week, and Ant Snell has created a splendid entry with copious quantities of toothpaste squeezing out of the tube. Love those shiny teeth! Just one thing: the reflection of the tube should have the same design as the front, surely. Welcome to the forum, Tony!

I really enjoyed brewell's boardroom power struggle at the Arm & Hammer headquarters - love the idea of them fighting it out with toothpaste! And some great distorted tubes there. I'd ad a little motion blur to the one under the blurred fist, though, and the woman's right hand looks perfectly posed for some double-tube action.

Our second new member this week is plawansine, with a battered tube that looks well-used. An expertly removed cap: I particularly like the way the neck of the tube has been built up. The only thing I'd change is the angle of the toothpaste as it comes out of the tube: I think it needs to come forwards more before drooping down. Welcome to the forum, Warin!

I think Deborah Morley's lobster may start to be come a regular feature in her illustrations. Certainly, it demonstrates how well it can hold and squeeze a toothpaste tube with that mighty claw. Shouldn't it be holding the brush with the other las beneath its feelers, though, rather than on top? And you really need to sack your plumber. He forgot to install a basin under that tap.

A touch of horror from Josephine Harvatt, with Christopher Lee showing off those fine gnashers. He should avoid squirting the toothpaste in his eyes, though, it does make them sore.

A gloriously gory scene from munchonu, with spattered blood and bloody handprints, a cobweb that appears somewhat knitted and a glorious spurt of translucent toothpaste coming out of the tube. The tube seems a little small for the scene, but everything else here is so artfully constructed - with great lighting - that I think you really deserve you got a custom title for this one. And I think, as ahmedalij suggests, it has to be Horror Master. Good work!

Neat squeezing from puffin31939 - I like the curve in "original", it's just the end of "mint" that seems a little over-compressed. Tricky stuff, this squeezing! Now if only you'd managed a reflection of the tube in those shiny chrome taps...

I think Jota120 might be getting a little frustrated with this week's Challenge... still, I really like that textural outpouring of toothpaste! Most dramatic! An interesting second entry, although if the girl were that close to the mirror we'd be able to see the back of her head. Are her teeth black, as well? Maybe she needed to learn how to unscrew the cap.

A toothsome crash scene from Jimbean, with paste gushing out and over the wheels of the truck. Would it drip into spikes like that? Or more into globules? And you need to adjust the paste at the neck, as it should all be coming out of the hole (some of it's coming out underneath). I like the added smoke - a very convincing touch. Eye Candy?

Subtle squeezing and a nicely renamed Tooth and Nail tube from tooquilos - and that's a very delicate and convincing squeeze of paste on the brush. An enjoyable animated version - I liked the lens flare at the end. If it were me, I'd have separated the teeth and lips into different layers, and then distorted the lips as the brush played over the teeth - but then it's easy to say that in hindsight.

Neat work from Garfield72, with a very tidy basin. I like all the elements, but why is everything so small? Look at the tap - the top is hand-sized. All your objects are tiny! And watch out for those shadows: they need to be straight on the wall, yes, but then have to run along the basin surface to meet the object that's casting them.

I see I'm making a late guest appearance in joeysala's entry - fat chance, with the toothpaste tube completely squeezed out! That's an interesting cup you have there, Joey. Are those teeth-cleaning instructions on the side? And what on earth does the orange deer dispense? Musk oil?

Well, I had thought it dispensed liquid soap - but musk oil is definately pretty funny! I'll buy that!

Oh bother! I never thought of the reflection in the taps! And, yes, this squeezing was tricky but I learnt an awful lot! Thanks, Steve. yes,

I thought about that. In retrospect I could have tilted the mirror, but in my mind I decided to depict what she would see (in her mind). Not the place for a man or lady to be with camera. Its like classical mechanics vs quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's cat, once you have an observer (in this case not), it all falls apart I was not there, and neither were you. We have the freedom to do that in this our space. Sorry that must be one of the most complicated "Get Out of Jail" (Monopoly) excuses you might get . Your point valid in reality (whatever that might be, ... collective? not what I have observed ...here we can and its great we share....) and appreciated.

>Are her teeth black, as well? Yes. Must be the red wine.

I guess she is working on that ... as we do ... "I knew I came here for a reason .. ? ah! .."
