Thanks to all for your comments.

Simon (may I call you 'Bubbles?) that's excellent. Just exactly where do we get all these wonderfully diverse ideas from? We must all be completely crackers

i have a lot of work this week, the time is not enough to find the pilot and background so i just draw all wings by myself and add the engines .

I didn't think I would have time to post so this is a real rush job and I know it shows! I couldn't source the right font for Dan in the time I had. Please be kind!

I think I've formed an emotional attachment to this car! First Pic, just a clean up, respray, bodykit and nice new engine..

Re: Challenge 386: The flying car
But we need a driver; Some say he naturally faces magnetic north, and that all his legs are hydraulic... All we know is, he's called The Stig!

I had to rush this picture, but here is a short video.. (make sure your speakers aren't too loud!)...

Re: Challenge 386: The flying car
First to fly the car this week was Ben Mills, with - er - not exactly what I had in mind, Ben! And for safety's sake, I'd attach the ropes to the car, not the tyres. A most attractive second entry, one of the few with wings the match the body colour - although it really needs a pilot.

A very sparkly entry from ahmedalij, with a couple of rear wings - actually, make that a single rear wing - and some rocket blasters. Or is that a piece of wing I can see just above the roof? Good placement on the driver, and I like the Batman-inspired second entry.

A highly polished car from GKB, complete with corporate branding. I particularly like the way the rear of the car sweeps up to hold the tailplane, and glad to see you've flipped it so the pilot can sit on the right. Gosh, is that me? Dig the aviators. But is it, ahem, missing an engine? Retracting the undercarriage in the second entry was a good move.

Rather lurid colours from James, who has converted the car into a biplane - I think I might add a could of extra struts to this wings, just to stop them falling off under the strain. And I think your propeller could be spinning a little faster if it really wants to keep the thing up in the air. The animated version spins the propellers nicely, but there's an issue here: the side-scrolling clouds make the cars appear to be flying sideways. Really, the cloud movement needs to follow the angle of the cars, but I can't imagine how you'd achieve that! A subtle near miss in the third entry.

A theatrical poster from Josephine Harvatt, with the most splendid pair of wings on the car - although its downward trajectory seems to imply that they aren't quite up to the job. Looks like a great night out, though. And I like the Cottingley car in the second entry - those tyres are still just a touch too dark, though, compared with the "black" in the background.

A seriously souped-up car from Ant Snell, which looks ready to take on all opponents - with the possible exception of that fence, which appears to be about to shaw a wing off. Bit of a scale issue there, Ant: your fence seems about a wheel's height in total, and there appears to be no space for the driver's body!

Clever stuff from brewell, who has created a whole troupe (flotilla? flock?) of these cars, all shown from subtle different angles. Damn clever, Bruce - did you source extra photos or use some clever trickery to distort the original?

A wide range of flying devices from joeysala, although only one of them is motorised (but I do like the rearranged wheels). Are all those darts hand drawn? I like the crashed one in the foreground. Three points on your artistic licence for not attempting the shadows, though.

A full squadron of Spitfires from zombie67, and very nice they are too. For a more dynamic look, though, try rotating each one a little bit more as it recedes towards the back, which will stop them all looking identical while also giving more of a sense of them flying from the horizon.

A subtle piece of subterfuge from michael sinclair, whose car is masquerading as a Red Arrow. It's a great idea, but I have some issues with the extent to which the car has been distorted. Or rather, not the car itself, but the wheels: cut them to a separate layer, so you can place them, undistorted, independently. In my experience, oval wheels never turn properly.

Good to see salfordnurse posting after an absence - hope your health improves. And what a terrific entry this is: the car has been immaculately built out of soap bubbles, each one beautifully distorted and seamlessly joined to make a hugely convincing final image. Glorious, Simon. You need to get back here more often!

Whenever I write up one of tooquilos's entries, I always spend time looking at the still image before treating myself to the animation. And what a clever piece of work it is: the hatch for the wing, the helmeted driver, and the tail plane all seem to make the car so much more convincing. I can sense the driver's frustration in the animated version - and the liberation as the car sprouts wings. But why is the flying motion so jerky? It seems to be done frame by frame, rather than in your usual After Effects manner.

Magnificent work from Jota120 this week, whose car has been expertly blended into a Spitfire - although you need to glance again at the reflection in the wing. Is that Pierce Brosnan at the controls? I like the upside-down space station docking in the second entry - the car could really do with its own NASA insignia, though, just to keep up the corporate branding.

High drama from Jimbean, whose car is flying over an extremely active volcano. A good sense of blur and motion, and I like the way the propeller has been fitted into the radiator grille - although I'd give it a spin, just to help keep the car up in the air.

A very neat plane from Deborah Morley, beautifully blending the car into the wings and tailplane. I like all the modifications, and the fact that a touch of cloud is coming over the wing. Most impressive here is the strong perspective that gives us such different views of the ends of each wing - well worked out! Is that me at the controls?

A convincing jet from Garfield72, with afterburner blazing and nicely adapted wheels. But my attention keeps being distracted by that magnificent background view - where is that? Looks like France to me, but I don't recognise the buildings... what a magnificent structure!

A nicely customised car from plawansine, with great wings, engines and tail - all hand drawn, which is great work. I'd make the wings just a little bigger, since they don't seem quite large enough to support a whole car. Find a background, it will make all the difference!

A night view from danaart, with great wings and removed wheels. That's quite some afterburner you've got there - I hope the pilot's well insulated! When posting images, use Photoshop's Save For Web feature. This should allow you to post an image at least 800 pixels on a side.

It seems maricliff's car is being given a helping hand - or rather, a helping pair of wings - by a passing angel. Which is just as well, since it has neither wings nor driver itself. I like all the sparkly cloud, Phill, but you do need to look at the extreme shadow on the angel: I think more balanced outdoor lighting would be expected here!

A rather clever conversion of the car into a space shuttle from puffin31939, subtly blending the two together. The Earth background looks more like a disk than a planet, though - and there is such a thing as overdoing the Plastic Wrap! Try dafont for a good selection of science fiction (and other) fonts.

No wings or pilot, but a splendid customisation job from Artwel - that's a highly worked car, and all the logos add a lot to the feel. The ground, though, is in a less extreme perspective than the car - flatten it out a little for a more convincing background. Aha - it does fly! Just seen the animated version - most entertaining. I like the sparking effect, and that endlessly scrolling background (although I'm not sure about your taste in music).

Excellent work this week, everyone!
