Re: Challenge 400: 2020 vision
Due to widespread power cuts in the UK in 2020, HTCIP members had to team up with one member powering up while the other worked on their challenge. (Am I the only pessimistic member of this forum)?

Photoshop goes intergalactic in 2020.

I see that I forgot to fade the vertical window frame reflection from the bottom. Oh well!

Going for a retro-futuristic look here..

The latest technology offers an Augmented Reality view, similar to a contact lens, giving the user a 360 degree display. It is used alongside a drawing tablet and a special glove which lets the wearer feel contours and actual textures in real-time. This offers a truly interactive experience.. (well the technology's pretty much there!..)
I wonder what 'Out' and 'Flow' do?

Animated version here

Re: Challenge 400: 2020 vision
This week's Challenge was all about visions of the future - and, in the main, your predictions have all been positive.

We started with LagoDiLecco's view of famous characters from history (and the present) beamed down from the heavens. Cloud technology, eh? Although it's hard to see a direct Photoshop reference here! But I like the glow these figures have.

A beautiful retro Photoshop interface from tooquilos, and it really is worth zooming in to the original full-size version (shortcut here) to see all the detail. The street sign arrow for the cursor icon, the real magic want, eyedropper, patch tool and bucket, and the rest... the labelled eraser, the ornate frame, the marbles for close and zoom buttons, the chalk and crayon colour selectors, the multiple brushes, the perfect Adjustment Layer icons, the jewelled Layer Styles panel, the glorious Layers panel with its real numbers, Scrabble lettering and trash icon, and the splendid Mask icon at the bottom: everything here has been painstakingly, thoughtfully recreated with tremendous care and wit. And then the animated version that explained it all - Anna, this is a gorgeous piece of work! Congratulations! (And yes, my avatar is winking, although you have to be patient to catch it.)

I like Josephine Harvatt's virtual screen - but how is it controlled? Merely by gesture? And I think my ghostly apparition beaming out of a hologram generator would be horribly off-putting to most users!

A clever set of new features, artfully incorporated into a single image in Ant Snell's advertisement for Photoshop CS5000. Like the Clone tool reference! But I do think the price is a touch on the high side.

I like Nick Curtain's idea of Photoshop built into a coffee table, although judging by the coffee cup reflections it could have done with a matt glass surface. The idea of a 10 year lithium battery certainly appeals - but no wireless connection to the camera?

The best thing about Garfield72's entry is the remote control. Based on an iPhone, it's an extended display that shows Photoshop's panels, with what appears to be a pull-out mini screen on the side. A great idea - but if one hand's holding the remote, and the other is pulling out the screen, what do you use to make changes on-screen? (On second thoughts, don't answer that.)

It took me a moment to figure out what we're looking at in brewell's entry: I think it's a brain, although adding a bit of skull and head top might make that clearer. Certainly, wiring a remote control for Photoshop directly into the brain might be a good idea in the long run, but I'd hope it could be achieved by keyhole surgery rather than sawing the top of your head off!

Fine work from Vibeke, with an anti-ageing version of Photoshop that performs 'real life editing' - just what we need. Most impressive finding two pictures of yourself from identical angles! Or did you just pose for the second one to match the first? Either way, I think your hair style has improved with maturity. And I like the added explanation in the second entry.

A voice-driven interface for Photoshop - now there's an idea (although steering the Pen tool might involve a lot of shouting). And I like the idea that Photoshop might make suggestions in return! A cool new computer design - great wrapping of the texture round the corners!

Somewhere, I still have the original floppy disk with Photoshop 1 on it - and Ben Mills's entry brings it all back. An artfully added "Telepathic Edition" completes the P Files intrigue - nicely done!

What does James keep under his hat? Perhaps we'll never know. But it seems to me you're getting on just fine with the 3D tools, James - they really aren't that complicated once you get the hang of them!

A fine array of virtual reality glasses in brumtaffy's entry, and it's comforting to see the class pay as much attention to the teacher as I did when I was at school. To make everyone look like they're in the same room, you need to address the big difference in skin tone colouring - but maybe you need to get further through the book first!

Ben Boardman is dreaming of a virtual interface - and I like the little row of Pen tools in the thought bubbles (and, indeed, the thought bubbles themselves are rather nicely drawn). A little concerned about your height in the frame, though: are you squatting on the floor?

A rare animation from Eva Roth - with a future Photoshop user materialising into existence before conjuring up a virtual cat and its background. I like the use of the Sketch filter to indicate it coming into existence! But should the control beams be cross-eyed?

An inspirational poster from Jota120, pointing out the chaotic irregularity of prime numbers (and I have always puzzled over that). I know you don't always stick to the topic, Trevor, but some mention of Photoshop might had been appropriate here! Josephine - isn't this from the Tao, rather than the Art of War?

A virtual projection from munchonu, with the screen hovering over Lake Windermere. It all looks a bit too far away to see clearly - and do you have to sit on the ground to use the projected keyboard? Still, a good location for serene inspiration.

I like Deborah Morley's idea of such an extreme power shortage that it takes two people to power up a computer to run Photoshop. I like those high text generators! But there's something a little weird going on with all the perspectives in the scene: it's the chap on the bike who really throws it out (look at how his hands slope down, and compare with the perspective of the room behind).

A big screen from Mariner - and that's really a BIG screen. I like the extra width, and the hands-on touch monitor, and there's something very cute about the doric columns that support the screen. But I would find that carpet terribly distracting!

I like Artjel's Star Trek references, especially working Humphrey Bogart into the cover. The blue beam could do with fading out rather than stopping dead, though, and I don't think the Texturizer filter is necessarily the best choice. But the Tricorder idea is a good one - always wanted one!

Jimbean wants to beam a virtual Photoshop interface onto all sides of a cube - a good idea, and a very tricky image to get right! I think the projector needs an upgrade, though, as all that streakiness would make it hard to see what's going on. Perhaps it should be resting on a surface? And beware of spicing up an image with a bright background: it simply serves to distract attention from the real focus.

A clever VR helmet from Emil, with the woman cunningly nestled into the Wacom logo. Perhaps she should have a body as well, though?

A smoking alien from Deb Raskin, drawing directly on his Cintiq (which may be an antiq, ha ha). The perspective of the table is at odds with the floor, though - even an alien floor like this one. I like the drawing of the chair, it's very effective. And would such an alien really be sitting at a mahogany desk?

Evocative work from Marlcliff, with a Photoshop screen spinning away into an abstract form. I like the balance and the energy of this one: if you get the chance to finish it, Phill, stick something on the screen! Hope you recover soon.

I like the combination of retro wireframe modelling with rather cool reflections in Artwel's entry - although the reflection of the ground plane way beneath the ground plane confused me somewhat. Some splendid video effects in the animated version - maybe the girl's eye should show a little emotion as well? Puppet Warp should do it fairly subtly.

I think in joeysala's entry she describes a future in which viruses have wiped out computers altogether (although that's some hefty virus, to smash a brick through the screen) and we've all gone back to our artistic roots with pencil and paper. A few scale issues here, with the relative sizes of the scissors, apple, set square, magazine and pencils - and that's the first time I've seen a ruler that goes up to 11!

Fun work this week. Here's to the next 400.

Thanks Steve, finding 2 photos taken from the same angle was pure luck, the first one was taken in about 1070 and the second one last year.
I had initially planned to find one and use Portrait Professional on it, when I stumbled across the old one. Shows the advantage of having my photos well key worded.

Re: Challenge 400: 2020 vision
Thank you - I was thinking of a Minority Report type set up - sadly I could not find a convincing hand/cyber glove and not enough time to make one.

But you are too modest - I am sure the threat of that virtual Steve hologram popping up would defnitely spur the user on to greater efforts ...

Thank you Steve. And by the way, that alien paid dearly for that desk at the antiques auction. Don't know where he got the Cintiq.

Thanks Steve -- I noticed you forgot to reference mine which falls in line with the troubles I had making it in 3D -- which hopefully is resolved as AMD sent me an auto update to my driver this am and so far so good - fingers crossed - it appears they have been working with Adobe to resolve a few issues in the CS 6 release-- all computer high tech stuff to me
