Re: Challenge 470: The French barn
A rare entry from laddition this week, with the barn placed in a cascading pastoral scene that flows out of the monitor. A great view - but the barn still looks ugly! Good to see you back, Vero.

The true purpose of the barn revealed, by ahmedalij - as a hangar for secret military aircraft. It's an excellent night scene, with points of light picked out with a hazy glow; and perfect perspective on the plane and missile launcher. Just one tiny point: you've flipped the missile launcher, but the number is now backwards. A spectacular second entry, with the barn moved into a forest setting!

Some rustic wood cladding from Frank, which blends the building in better. Strengthen the shading on the walls facing us, especially the two nearest, to accentuate the bend at the corners. I like the cheery corn cob logo - a great improvement.

A simple yet perfect cheat from katew - a very neat solution! The only small problem is that's not a grass field but mown corn. I think the tractor might have trouble weaving in and out of those trees.

A variety of surface textures from brewell, including some complex stonework on the left. Which is, of course, exactly how they build barns in rural France. I like the new tiled roofs especially. Much better.

A green and verdant new setting from marlcliff, with new grass in front and some well-placed trees around it. Which looks very well, but, er, the challenge was to fix the barn...

A new member this week - and TheBlueJam has produced a fantasy entry featuring a creature that's part swan, part goat, with a rather pert bottom. It's a great construction, and I like the way the barn blends into the background. Is that a cloud it's sitting on? Welcome to the forum, Jane-Ann!

A nicely decorated barn from Vibeke, with painted sunflowers that match the field in the foreground. I like the added hay bales, and those trees - all very French and authentic. And the trees do hide the barn well.

A range of transport in James's post - not just the expected tractor but a glider, which crosses right to left before landing between the trees. But is that me at the controls? Should be Gordon, surely?

Well, Emy has moved the barn to a more exotic location - but I can't say it really improves the view of the distant hills! Perhaps painting it green would help it to blend in? Oh, and watch your perspective: the horizon set by the furniture is much lower than that in the background image.

I rather approve of Deborah Morley's straightforward solution: burn the place down. Good outbreaks of fire, and I like the way the building is collapsing as it burns. That should do it!

A beautiful conversion from tooquilos, who has repainted the barn and added a huge number of antique signs (and, indeed, "antique" signs) to make the barn a thing of beauty. The carriage and chickens in the foreground are a big addition, and it's great to see the jigsaw pieces of the image in perspective on the table in front of it. Great to see the jigsaw being completed in the animated version, too - and I really like the shot with the box on the completed puzzle. Excellent, Anna, this is spectacular work!

A conversion into a boulangerie from Linda Eckert, which certainly makes the barn more appealing. A rather large variety of scale here, though, but I can forgive that for the elegance of the idea. Does the lavender seem too small, do you think?

A neat solution from Ben Mills, who has repainted the barn and trained ivy to climb over it. The ivy on the left works well, but why the fuzzy edges on the right hand ivy? Last time I looked, ivy leaves were fully opaque...

A neat conversion from Garfield72, who has clad the barn in bricks that give it a much more rustic appearance. Adding a little shading to the walls facing us would help to mark the difference between the planes:

Some major construction work from Jota120, as the barn becomes a site building during river dredging. Well, that certainly distracts attention from it, but it's not really the rural idyll I was hoping for. I like the new cornfield in the second entry - but the barn is still just as ugly!

A clever animation from michael sinclair, starting with a digger hurtling down a tree-lined road - but I'd get rid of those white and yellow lines, which seem to pulsate back and forth and rather spoil the sense of forward movement. I like the destruction in the second entry, and the serene field of sunflowers in the third entry. I think this might be the first Friday Challenge entry that doesn't involve the starting image at all, and yet which stays on topic!

Clever work from BigVern, whose barn is camouflaged to look like a hedge with sky behind. Remarkably effective - but you need to darken the walls facing us to make the building look more realistic:

A dazzlng barn conversion from Ben Boardman, who has turned the ugly building into a spectacular house. Excellent new windows, and I really like the new glazed walls of the building on the far right and in the middle. The perspective's a little off on the middle glazing - it doesn't follow the line set by the roof to the right - but it's very close. Overall, though, a hugely impressive piece of work. Terrific, Ben.

A very colourful entry from joeysala, with each wall painted a different hue - and I like the army of decorators working on the final wall. Not sure of Dr Pierce or his connection to the barn, but he needs to get his perspective sorted out!

Very fine work this week.

Thanks Steve,
The 2 photos I used, farm country and sunflowers were both taken in France.

Ha, is that a cloud it's sitting on? Steve, I don't know. It started out as a blocking for rock then the night time kicked in

Thanks Steve, I couldn't afford to get the decorates in after the three fellers had been.

Thanks again Steve. Understand your points, but I was drifting or was it dredging .

Love images of everyone's sun flowers. Depicts France and cycled through/by them. I even have several photos, but another day ....
