Re: Challenge 500: Show me what you've got
Thanks Steve and many congratulations on the 500th challenge. I know this is a fair amount of work for you each week and no other author I can think of has maintained such a high level of interaction with readers. I'm sure you know how much your dedication is appreciated by all of us. Here's to the next 500.

I'm pleased you liked the image, which took around 45 minutes from start to finish. I set the camera up on the tripod, pre-focused and switched everything to manual. The sun was going in and out, so I waited for a break in the clouds, called Kim who released the shutter as I literally ran round the car saying 'click', while trying to space myself evenly. It was all done in such a rush I forgot to hold the polish and different colour cloths, which I'd placed in the garage ready to use. Best laid plans and all that!

Good to see you took part as well - great stuff.

Regards

Nick

Thanks Steve, this was fun. Like you I cheated and coloured a couple of my tops, and the 3 copies of the same magazine was on purpose, to check if you were awake.
Congratulations on 500 challenges, will we make it to 1000?
Thanks for all the fun and all you have taught us.
Vibeke

Re: Challenge 500: Show me what you've got
Thanks Steve. This was a most enjoyable Challenge and everyone's work was excellent. A very fitting 500th Challenge.

Yes the roast beef and veggies were added in later as I thought it was a little too OTT to cook an entire meal for a realistic image The wine in the glasses was actually water coloured with red food colouring - I figured that opening a bottle of Ladoix Premier Cru was also a little OTT.

Happily Sylvia had gone out for the day when I did this as I figured that if she had seen what I was doing she would, finally, have called in the men in white coats!

On the techie side:- Nikon D700 with 12mm lens on a tripod, manual focus and exposure set and left alone. SB 900 flash. Radio remote release to fire the camera. The first image was shot without me for easier compositing.

May I also echo Vibeke's comment about all the fun that we have all had on this forum. The Friday Challenge has been a phenomenal learning tool with some terrific people participating.

Gordon

Thanks Steve, that was fun, great efforts by all. The pub is a compilation of one in Tasmania & one at Daly Waters NT. Daly Waters does believe in gender equality - bras hanging over one bar (all signed) mens undies over another.

Thanks for the feedback you have given over the years and thanks for the additional images of yourself in this week’s challenge. Expect to see some of them feature in some future challenges.

Re: Challenge 500: Show me what you've got
Thanks, Steve for your critique. Since I gave you a challenge I should give you the answer. Below left is the background image I used. As you can see it only contained the one brother-in-law. Given that the other one was clearly not original to the picture, it was an easy guess that the one cooking in the back was original to the image.

On the right is the original for the seated brother-in-law. Even though it is pretty clear that the seated one isn't original, what amazes my brother-in-law is how I got his elbows off his knees and on the table. The answer is a combination of layers, puppet wrap, a little free transformation, clone stamp and a bit of healing brush.

My question though is: if I had only posted the image without the mat under my tomato-chopping sister, would you have picked her?

Dazzling work from puffin31939, who not only had to contend with the vagaries of moving shadows and the sun coming in and out, but also managed six complete costume changes. Excellent interaction, and a real sense of a fully populated scene. Tremendous attention to detail: the figure on the far right is even casting a shadow over the legs of the next one along. A faultless job, Angela - you should be really pleased with this one.
Excellent work, everyone!

Thanks, Steve. High praise indeed!
I am really pleased with this image and it was great fun.
I had the advantage of a handy photographer (my husband) so all I had to do was get changed and pose, hopefully looking in the right direction. Mike was in charge of pressing the shutter. My job was to put it all together in PS. Like Gordon we took a base image to make the montage easier (and then took it again when the sun came out fully).
Trying to pay attention to detail is something I have learned from this forum. In fact I will echo previous comments and say a big thank you for the Challenge and for all the helpful criticism. I have lots to learn but this is a great way to learn it all. Thanks.

Warmest thanks and congratulations Steve for inspiring and challenging us over the course of many years and 500 Friday challenges. I wish I had had time to take part this week but alas life got in the way.

Congratulations to the cheaters (including Steve) for such fantastic entries.

Thanks, Steve. I also felt guilty for recolouring too many shirts. This was fun - I felt like I was an actor, dashing backstage to throw on another costume, then rushing out to become another character. Thanks for the applause.

Many thanks for your comments Steve and I too agree with all the comments made above about this splendid forum!

As for my image.. luckily the images were taken about mid-day, so no long drop shadows, but the shadows on myself should have been corrected on the flipped images... and did I say it was a rush job..?
