Great job on your first effort.

Here is a playlist of tutorials I have found helpful when using HitFilm: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgfiM46Y0Ue0sk4ACtkEy9TPWO6JbgD79
I particularly liked the How to animate everything" series.

Here are links to a couple of other tutorials I've found helpful:

Just to ease people's minds, the earthquake was in Southern California. I live close to San Francisco. I wouldn't have known about it except for the news reports.

Re: Challenge 762: Cat among the pigeons
First to put the cat among the pigeons this week was lwc, with a neatly made display case - I like the way the image wraps around the sides and base - and a very fine flying pigeon. And an entertaining second entry, with the pigeon flying back and forth inside the case. Great seagulls in the third entry, but a curious fit inside that piece of furniture; a sense of depth and distance needed, I think. A calm fourth entry, with an abundance of pigeons and seagulls in a nicely positioned beach hut.

Good placement in the wild from Ben Mills, with the added grasses at the front placing the ocelot into the background. Nicely done.

A fabulously skewed view from DavidMac, with the ocelot climbing out of the painting. It’s hard to achieve this technique successfully, but you’ve managed it thanks to the artfully drawn shadow, which really brings this one to life. That and the parrot, of course.

It seems GKB is moving in on Hollywood - taking over Fox, Gordon? Excellent title sequence. I like how the poster is assembled, and that’s a rather fine dinosaur you have there. Very cute. Ridiculously small arms they had. A neatly constructed glass case in the second entry, with those reflections really bringing out its glassiness. I like the touch of refraction.

A perfectly added explorer from Linda Eckert: the way the sun shines through the silhouette is exactly right. I like the added ocelot, and especially the face in the rock on the right. Tremendous.

A finely wrought animation from michael sinclair, with a pulsating sea (but I’d like to see that horizon static) and neatly flapping wings on the seagull. Good work on the ocelot, too. This must have taken some time.

A lot of Edward Lear references in tooquilos's diorama - given away by the owl perching on its pussycat, the honey and the moon. Good to see the full poem in the animated version, with the twinkling lamps and moving ocean bringing the scene to life. Love the flying pig and the magnificent Bong tree! Beautiful. Er… “pea green” boat?

A great sense of movement from Eva Roth, with seagulls flocking around the rocky scene. A much calmer ocelot, too: your one seems far less predatory than mine.

A dancing - or perhaps prancing - ocelot from srawland, which appears to be skipping through the sea. Perhaps all will become clear in the animated version… I like the 1970s feel to the title sequence, and Tony’s ever-dependable deadpan narration. That oscillating ocelot is just glorious - and it’s such surprise when it bounces to the front. Is that a seagull in its mouth? Hilarious, Sara. Top form!

A mix of animation and live action from Frank, with great comic effect. It really looks like animation has added an extra dimension to your work, Frank - keep at it! But I do have to take you to task on your captions. Having them all in capitals makes them harder to read, and setting them all in different fonts and colours means they don’t link together - it took me a while to understand “Find the nasty ocelot…”, as it didn’t immediately follow from the yellow caption that preceded it. And! One exclamation mark! is plenty!

A comic entry from Josephine Harvatt, for whom the natural solution to the problem of what to do with an ocelot was to add butterfly wings. Well, they help it to leap in the air, I suppose. Fun!

A finely reconstructed scene from Mariner, with an assortment of seagulls just out of reach of the stretching ocelot. I like its reaching arms; I think maybe it should be standing on those rear paws, rather than sitting on its ankles. Oh: and what’s that join line in the middle of the sky?

Oh dear, I thought I had got rid of that.

Thanks, Steve, for a difficult and interesting challenge.

It proved simpler than I expected. The shadow is, as you point out, pivotal to a proper result. Tanks. Enjoyable.

Re: Challenge 762: Cat among the pigeons
Thank you, Steve. It is indeed a seagull in it's mouth.

I saw it as a flat video screen presentation, but I do agree about the lack of depth.

Thanks!

Thanks Steve , I used the yellow text in one spot as no other color was easy to read given the background. Other than that I was trying to figure out using the text in the new program and I have to admit fonts and using text is not one of my stronger points.
Moreover I was in a rush to get to the campground for that first cold beer !

Thanks Steve. Somehow I thought the stuffed ocelot's face looked to 'fake'. You're right, mine looks rather startled by the seagulls' attack.
