Re: Challenge 772: Build me a moat
First to flood the moat this week was Ant Snell, with a splendid conflagration of stories - King Arthur, the Lady of the Lake with her sword, and a wooden horse for good measure. Great to see the Monty Python knights on the battlements too. All very coherent - but watch your saturation on that wooden horse. A charming flooded moat with jousting knights from DavidMac. I like the the onlookers, and closed drawbridge - although I doubt it would reach the other side of the moat when it’s opened. The pedalo knights are absolutely glorious, although surely the lance of the one on the left should go behind the duck’s head in order to reach to his left? ![]() A Monty Python homage from GKB, with a 3D rendered intro in the reconstructed title sequence. I recognise your voice in the foot-squashing raspberry. A somewhat racy slab serif font for the graffiti, and a nicely reimagined scene from the film. How did you do that fluttering flag? A powerful image sequence from lwc, showing the transformation of the forecourt from car park to pasture - very sensitively done. Great angle on the bridge. I like the closed drawbridge in the second entry - especially the way you’ve moved the chains and raised the beams to match. Good attention to detail, Loyd. A huge amount of animation in the third entry - the smoke and fire, the ducks, the girl’s dress on the rampart, the waving man, and of course the scrolling text… amazing. Although those newsreaders to bear an uncanny resemblance to Bill and Hillary Clinton. I enjoyed Frank's thunderstorm, and that’s a great impression of the moat gradually filling with water. I really like how the water flows through the moat - a really well-judged effect. Following a suggestion that michael sinclair should add Napoleonic troops to my ramparts, he’s instead added Scots Guards to a field. Irrelevance to the theme aside, it’s a two-framer that’s actually surprisingly effective: I think the jiggling heads and bodies has a lot to do with it. Bang on topic with the second entry though, and that rippling reflection does work well. A couple of things about the perspective, though: from this angle, the horizon as seen through the archway should be a lot lower. And in the reflection, we shouldn’t be able to see the path surface at all: reflections from below horizontal surfaces never show those surfaces: ![]() I do like the added boat and swan, although of course the angle of the boat is rather at a tilt. A period piece from tooquilos, with lit torches and gushing water spouts - and what looks like Mont St Michel in the background. An astonishing animated version, with its opening drawbridge. My only real comment on the building would be to make the arched wall a little thicker - doesn’t look like i could support the building above it. An interesting take on the support beam mechanism! I’d have thought they just rotate to lift the drawbridge. I enjoyed the dragon sequences, although the dragon itself bothered me: those feet always look as though they’re standing, not flying. Maybe consider bending them away from the horizontal? A beautiful lily pond and meadow from Mariner, and I like the story of the knight leaving while (presumably) Mrs Knight watches from the archway. Great lighting on her. And I like the warmed-up view. |

Thank you Sara. As a retired computer technician the first question I would ask is "Have you re-installed the print driver?". This is an obvious first step, and the appropriate print driver and installation procedure can be found on the net. If you still have the CD that came with the printer then the driver you need will almost certainly be on it. However, re-installing a printer, especially if it's WiFi, can be problematic, and it would help if you can dig out a talented son or daughter to do it for you. |

Steve et al Good morning from a pleasantly warm southern Italy. The flag was created in Cinema with the texture in Photoshop. Effective, isnt’t it? _________________ Time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana. |

It's like tower bridge Steve - there's another half raised just out of frame left. Or if you prefer it is double folding with another leaf hidden behind the closed. Take your pick ...... ![]()
I've run out of lame excuses here. You are quite right. Thank's Steve. You never let me get away with laziness. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thank you Steve. I wasn't entirely happy with the performance of the dragon. He was a solid OBJ which meant I couldn't manipulate him to fly naturally. So I had I had limited movements for him. Im attempting to build my own dragon but so far each attempt has failed, but Im still optimistic that I'll get there. Hope you are having a great time Gordon! _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

Hello Mariner, The latest printer driver was installed and re-installed many, many times yesterday by myself and the 6 different technicians that were certain it was the printer's problem and not their upgrade. _________________ I'm still learning. |
