Good that you found the model useful Dennis. There are some issues with it but I thought it was very good considering that it’s a freebie

You are correct Gordon. I think I was just lucky trying the Daz Shaders first. I was wondering why I couldn't get a decent dust layer with the shaders. It never applied to the center of the model. I wanted to texture it realistically, with paint chips, scratches etc but I couldn't get the model to play nicely in 3Dcoat. I was going to offer you the texture maps but that blew up in my face.

Anyway, it's still a lovely model and I still appreciate the heads up on the link.

So with a 3D model, what's the obvious thing to do once you've done a front view. Offer a back view.

One always has to be careful where they afford time and detail. I thought it would be nice to put the "How to cheat...." on the number plate but it ended up being to small to see....hence the "in your face" number plate...lol.

Ooh there’s an opportunity that I missed for a rear view

As you mentioned dust and scratches I thought I would send you a link to ‘Greyscale Gorilla’ which I received a few days ago. I haven’t looked at it closely but they might just have what you were looking for if your software can handle it.

Re: Challenge 850: The two-wheeler
Thanks Gordon. Are you running C4D then. I model in Modo but not as a rule of thumb. Years ago I started on Truespuce 3.2 all the way to 6.6. I have version 7 as well. Cost me a lot of bloody money, Bill Gates took it over and released vs 7 and then dropped it like a hot potatoe. I was really 'p' off as I had become accustomed to the use of it.

The movie industry use 3.2 to create the metal skeleton under Arnold's skin in Terminator - plus more, which sold me on the program.

When I did my first render yesterday, after I downloaded the model, I was wondering how advanced you were in 3D. With my first render, I used the background image in the HDRI slot, to light the Morgan with the colour of the background. In the second image, I never did. You can notice the difference in tone between the 2 images. The 1st image had reflections in the chrome that was obviously from the background image lighting the scene, be it upside down, or skew, it didn't matter. It offered a 3D environment to reflect in the shiny areas and toned my model to that of the scene.

The 2nd, I never did. You can notice it (if you're looking for it) by the absence of environmental reflection in the chrome surfaces etc. The bonnet is also reflecting light from a bare blue sky and flat earth tone horizon....but nothing else. The tone is off aswell. Slightly but it's off.

Looking forward to trading notes with you. I do confess that I stay away from node based procedural texturing. In 3Dcoat, I can create my own "monkey see monkey do procedural and pbr surface textures. Very quick and effective. I'm using 3Dcoat more and more for texturing.

I can do basic modelling. Epstein's Torso and Steam drill, crane, clothing, Copper wash cistern, Coal bin etc...but not rigged. That's what is keeping me from posting a completed steam drill. The rigging. I needed an exhaust for the reverse of the Morgan and modeled that this afternoon. Very simple. Uv maps were not up to par as the textures did not follow the flow of the exhaust, so I re uv mapped them in Modo.

The Cockpit.

Gordon, I understand the issue we are having when applying shaders. 3D modelling is time consuming enough. Thereafter, the model has to be uv mapped. To save time, software that is capable of texturing your model, without uv maps, are being introduced. Using procedural and or node based surfaces, pbr materials etc, these programs don't use uv maps unless specific detailing is required.

The modeller therefor, colour codes objects that will require the same shaders. 1 colour for steel, another for leather, glass, brass etc, etc.

What I did was identify the groups and broke them down into my own needs and extruded them accordingly. Apart from the mesh being broken in places, it separated without problem and textured seamlessly.

Thanks, Dennis, there was indeed a lot of work in there. And when it comes to crispness and clarity we have a lot in common.

Some fantastic entries this week - great work by all is the shortest way to comment on some very well done work.👏👏👏
I wasn't going to do an animation this week till I saw the entries coming in and realized I had to do something a little different so after much deliberation and uncertainty:

Frank I get UNORTHORIZED when I try to go into Vimeo. What Name do you go under in Vimeo, so I may get around the problem that way.

I'm anxious to know if you have spun your wheels!

Lol, lovely Frank. Depends how many wheels you're suppose to have.

Mariner. Great stuff. Beautifully done.

But where's the panicked screaming mother rushing in to sweep her youngest away from danger?

Nicely done frank. Although optically somewhat improbable, I just love the touch of the drips running down the lens.
