Love it, looks like he's got the latest iPhone 13. I would have loved the red one, but couldn't get that in the 13 Pro Max. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

I'm glad, Vibeke. The original iPone was in pale blue, but I changed it so it would stand out more. |

Re: Challenge 877: John Wayne
Feeling really stumped by my own offering. The statue is so awful that you either have to completely substitute (which rather defeats the point) or leave hidden in silhouette. I am amazed at how well everyone has done. Interesting that an unpromising subject has produced so many good results. In keeping with my unfortunate photographic mishap I did, however, (quite by chance) stumble upon an aptly named saloon. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 877: John Wayne
First to jump on a horse this week was michael sinclair with, admittedly, a different horse and a different rider. Still, it’s a good trotting movement, with nice head and tail action. Interesting to see how you’ve refined this animation over the week. I rather like lwc's speeded-up version, too. John Wayne perfectly brought to life by Frank, with a couple of new legs for the horse and, it seems, a new one for Mr Wayne as well. Very nicely done. One observation: if the people on the wagon are in front of Wayne, then they’re nearer the camera, and should be bigger than him, not smaller. A set of rather beautiful sunsets from lwc, with great lighting on Wayne. Small point here: the light flare should be in front of the horse, even though the sun is behind: ![]() I like the vultures in the second entry, and that horse in the background. I’d like to see John Wayne’s horse twitching its ears, though. Whoa! There we go! Plenty of movement in the third entry. A really convincing effect on that grass, I’m surprised it works so well. I enjoyed the ride-past at Dodge City in the fourth entry, and the moose in the fifth entry. The sixth entry is perhaps the most effective for me: just beautiful. The silhouettes are really evocative. The slow amble past in the seventh entry is very enjoyable. And I did like the not-so-subtly priapic eighth entry. A great reconstruction from tooquilos - it’s the new mane that really does it for me. Interesting walking movement in the animated version, but shouldn’t the saddle stay more or less still as the rider bounces up and down? A great 3D effect with the rocks and trees, I really like how that works. And it’s fun that he ends up in Las Vegas. A good new hand, complete with gun, from Vibeke; I like the new horse, although I might have moved the saddle a little further back for comfort. Very good perspective matching in the background, too. Really small suggestion: add some shading to the near side of the hat so it matches the shading on Wayne: ![]() If I hadn’t seen the original I wouldn’t have believed Mariner's entry wasn’t a real horse. The colouring and texture are superb. A great expression on Wayne, the added stirrup is a great touch (and I see you’ve had to shorten his leg to accommodate it). I like that he’s holding a phone, and the addition of Clint Eastwood in the background sets the scene off perfectly. Well, nearly perfectly: if you’re going to have an out-of-focus background, you really need an out-of-focus cow to stand in it: ![]() I absolutely can’t fault the second entry, though, which is just immaculate. I like how he’s taking his hat off. I find it ironic that DavidMac was stumped by his own Challenge - but beautiful lighting here, and adding the reins is a good call. I think it’s the pose and expression of the lady in the doorway that really brings this to life for me. Plus, of course, the very neatly populated interior of the saloon. |
