Re: Challenge 881: Maltese legs
First to rebuild the statue this week was DavidMac, and what a high bar was set here. A seamless, immaculate reconstruction, the waistband from the gnome blending perfectly into the skirt beneath. The position and angle of view of the gnome are spot on. Magnificent, David, and a really hard act to follow. Malta meets Easter Island from lwc, with an entertainingly populated scene - glad you’re finding those people useful! I enjoyed the miniature version in the second entry, too, the rain and lightning adding a lot of interest here. Do people really have dog cushions, though? The Maltese Falcon in the third entry is absolutely splendid, and I like the way the woman sets the scale. The souvenir in the fourth entry is fun, too. I like the fifth entry, especially the Htcip branding on the steering wheel (and good job allowing the Maltese to drive on the left). The blocks that hold up the statue on the truck make sense to its position, but of course any real Amazon delivery would have put it in a cardboard box that’s four times too big for it. A very fine Assyrian statue top from Vibeke, at exactly the right angle of view. I’m intrigued by the vertical striations in the centre of the skirt, though: were those present in your new top, or did you extend the originals? Either way, a terrific piece of work. And I like the rebuilt background. A good piece of blending from Frank, and I like the additional background. What a curious sculpture you’ve added: is that a highly stylised tiger in chains? Very odd. Can’t work out quite what the boy is doing: that hand could really do with a slingshot. Very interesting to see the partial reconstruction in the lecture video. After much gathering of earth-moving objects of destruction, michael sinclair came through with a curious montage. It’s a fun gag, of course, and I like the positioning of the umbrella. But it’s a rather half-hearted montage, I’m sure you’ll agree - almost as if you couldn’t wait to blow it up. I do, however, rather like the third entry with its impending tornado. GKB's take on Wallace and Gromit’s The Wrong Trousers, albeit with curiously shadow-resistant carpet and wallpaper. The animated version makes great use of the 3D space, and the walking motion on Gromit and the penguin are splendid (although it might have been better to freeze Gromit half a second or so later, when his legs are together). Wallace is a little too static, but otherwise this is a really fun animation. An Indian elephant head from tooquilos, together with a fedora with a dodgy shadow - what can it all mean? The animated version reveals all, with Ganesh (just the one e, I believe) landing on the legs. I enjoyed the roaming around the 3D modelled interior, too. Great soundtrack. A bizarre and somewhat scary entry from Mariner, with a busty statue about to perform a human sacrifice. I like how you’ve turned the legs into a three-legged table - in fact, rebuilt it from scratch, bu the look of it. The woman with the shirt malfunction on seems a little out of place, though; I wonder if she’s needed here at all. Irrespective of the nail varnish! A really funny entry from dwindt, with the statue as a giant pair of bloomers slipping off in the wind. That’s an incredibly high flight for a hang glider, judging by the clouds beneath! |

Re: Challenge 881: Maltese legs
Thank you Steve
Maybe she is the baby's mother, manbe she is a High Priestess, maybe she is both. In the real world the statue cannot carry out the execution, so someone human must. I imagined that, once the opening rituals are done, then the mother/HP takes the sword and does the job. I'll bet it's happened in real life at least once. Remember Moses? |
