yes, but before I started it I thought maybe "expired" might be a good title, but didn't fancy lighting the bonfire (time was too short). |

Loyd, I'm sorry you had to give up golf. I had to sell my car as my eyesight is too poor for me to carry on driving. |

Mariner, that's brilliant. The floral bag cracked me up! He's so confident holding it. _________________ Wicked Witch of the West: I'm melting! I'm melting! |

Re: Challenge 882: The Wizard of Christchurch
![]() Kia Kaha Christchurch Kia Kaha means Stay Strong. This entry is made up of some of my own photos taken within 5-minute walk from the Cathedral. The background with the couple dancing among the ruins is for real. The bridge of remembrance has been moved in front. Until the Earthquakes in Christchurch I thought, an earthquake happens and then the clean up can begin. How wrong. The first one in Christchurch was a 7.1 magnitude at 4.35am on September 4, 2010. No loss of life, lots of after shakes. By February it had all slowed down and seemed to be over then at 12.51 pm on February 22, 2011, a 6.3 magnitude only 5km below Christchurch. 185 people died. We also learned a new word, liquefaction, which is when the sideways movement of the ground is so fast that it turns to mud that rises to the surface and covers everything. The after shakes kept coming. They don't make the news anymore. The last one was on November 4th, 4.1 magnitude. We have around 15000 earthquakes each year, but only between 100- 150 are large enough to be felt. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Challenge 882: The Wizard of Christchurch
First to liberate the wizard this week was lwc, still in full wizarding attire on the beach. Splendid shadow! Great ranting in the second entry, even if the car is unnaturally small. I like the idea of a statue in the third entry, even if it is a big garden gnomish - and that’s a terrific location for a wizard’s house. Great to see the interior, complete with portrait over the mantlepiece, and a cunningly dehatted wiz. And that’s some very nicely animated spell casting. I like the lighthouse location in the fifth entry, although the angle of the top of the ladder suggests it should be just above the horizon. And I enjoyed him fighting off seagulls. What on earth is the Bra Fence in the seventh entry? Is that an actual thing? Just when I thought this was shaping up to be lwc’s solo show week, along comes tooquilos with a wizard in a bubble. And is that a hint of a sword in a stone? A great lightning bolt in the animated version, and the resulting travelogue is impressive: great to see how well he fits into those filmed scenes. I think I like the guardsmen best, as he marches along with them, and the Taj Mahal scene is terrific. But we’ll always have Paris… A glorious world tour! A wild setting from Vibeke, with added wand (and very fine it is, too). There’s something a little awkward about the position of the wizard in this scene, and I think it’s because the top of the ladder is very slightly sloping down to the left: this puts it above the horizon, so the whole thing needs to be higher in the composition. And is that an extra couple of wizards in the distance? That’s a splendid arch in the second entry, and the wizard really gives it scale. 15000 earthquakes a year? I can’t imagine even one. Congratulations to michael sinclair for giving us a rather splendid wizard without resorting to explosives - although that is a rather thick lightning strike. I enjoyed the animated twin tornadoes in the second entry, despite having no idea why they have been posted in the Challenge. Certainly, what the world needs right now is a wizard to work some environmental magic, as Frank points out. Pouring water onto the flaming globe is a great visual metaphor, and it’s good to get Greta Thunberg in there. A historical scene from Mariner - or rather, a bit of a mixture of histories, with the wizard emerging from a 19th century carriage and waving just past a group of Tudor people, while carrying a distinctly 20th Century shopping bag. I like the homecoming in the second entry, and I suspect you built that doorway on the left yourself without consulting an architect. A harsh ending in the third entry, though. I’m a little unsure about the scale of the people on the right on this one. Also, when someone is photographed close up at the edge of the frame with a wide angle lens, you get awkward distortion: I’m talking about the man second from left. Easy to fix, and don’t forget about the feet: ![]() I’m glad DavidMac managed to get an entry in - and very funny it is too. Although I have to say I’ve yet to see a urinal with a flush chain. |

Thanks Steve, The Bra-Fence is for real, I'll be down that way in a few weeks and will send you a photo, if I find it. https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/destinations/nz/95565502/world-famous-in-new-zealand-the-cardrona-bra-fence _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Thanks, Steve. Yes, a mixture of errors by me this week. I value the criticism though. It lets me know what I can get away with, and what I can't. |
