I particularly like the leaf shadows on the ground Michael.
I get "What is it this week? ........ So ... Let's see ...... Is that the best you can do?!?". _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Yes, they had to be there or Steve would have mentioned it. Is that the best you can do? Haha! Even more cruel! |

Beautiful work as usual Michael: you give it that extra something. ![]() However, expect a word from the site owner regarding steps and levels. Due to the exigencies of life I'm unable to present an entry this week. |

Re: Challenge 944: City fish
First to tackle the fish stall this week was, um, michael sinclair, who clearly doesn’t find the subject to his liking. I was hugely tickled by your orang utan though, Michael – a splendid piece of work. To quote Frank, though: “At first I looked at the image and was going to pass but the name of the game (Challenge) is to gather and hone your PS skills to breathe some life and character into a somewhat static scene.” A snowstorm from lwc, greatly augmented by the return of the moose (and very subtle it is too). Good flames in the second entry, the two cyclists gliding past replacing the moose. Curious that the static cyclist is more interested in the camera than the burning stall, though. Loose morals from Ant Snell, whose red light district certainly brings the area to life. Don’t these ladies usually hang about in pairs, though, rather than ignoring each other? A glorious reconstruction from Frank, whose fish stall has been perfectly reopened. The detail is extraordinary: the lighting on the customers, the sailor model outside, the shadows, fantastic. A couple of small points: the stall appears to be somewhat larger in the inside than it is on the outside; and why are the people in the foreground so low? Are they standing in a hole, or do you see a sharp hill here? But this is not to detract from the overall impression: a beautiful, subtle piece of work. You should be really proud of this one. DavidMac has gone celebrity-conscious, with Rick Stein presenting a show in front of the stall. The interior of the stall is immaculate, and the assembly of cameraman, boom operator and preview monitors frame the shot nicely. Two small and stupidly pedantic points: I’ve never seen anyone present a TV programme while lit from behind; and since the camera is off to the left the preview on the monitor should show him obscuring those two fishmongers behind. The conversion into a fairground attraction in the second entry is beautifully realised, with great perspective and shadows, and an extraordinary amount of detailing. Good to see a few photoshop.london characters making their way in there! And particularly interesting to see the raw images before the lighting was added. It does make all the difference. Anyone would think this was an area you knew about… A novel approach from GKB, turning the stall into a giant fish tank – and achieved with great skill. That’s a truly scary 3D fish in the animated version, floating perfectly in its tank. Great choice of music! A mystic transformation from tooquilos, with a newly-forested market place and a change of ownership of the stall. I like all the motion in the animated version, including the curious bat wings! The reflection in the crystal ball is splendid. You’ve had fun with this. Out with the fish, in with the blooms… Mariner's flower stall adds a fresh, lively feel to the market. But what’s most extraordinary here, of course, is the conversion from night to day – a hugely trick task, as we’ve seen before. I’m impressed that you found photos of the pub and city hall from the right angle. That huge shopping trolley is curious, though. Is it to mask something behind? Intriguing that you’ve replaced a gentle slope with a lot of steps. Too many, perhaps? Fine work this week. |

Re: Challenge 944: City fish
Yes and no. Or rather no('ish) and yes. At present he is facing the photographer. When he turns to face the TV camera he will be lit more from the side....... (well that's my story). Truth is I couldn't move the lamp more to the side because then it wouldn't be in the image, and that would spoil the fun. The preview on the monitor is very wrong indeed. Quite apart from the incorrect parallax that you have astutely pointed out, given the placement of the TV camera, he would be more or less profile on the monitor. I couldn't find a suitable three quarter profile image so just took the lazy way out. I might have guessed it wouldn't slip past you!
I really enjoyed it even though it took far longer than I should really be spending on challenges. Thanks Steve. Another challenge that was much more rewarding than it first appeared at face value. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 944: City fish
Thanks Steve. The foreground people were placed low because they are downhill from the shop which is clearly built on a slope as can be seen by its foundation. As a matter of interest I actually used the interior of the real building as I was lucky enough to come across it in my search. Perhaps it could have been scaled down a bit more for the transformation. ![]() |
