Re: Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
First to take on Andromeda this week was GKB, with a splendid nod to Dark Star (and thanks, David – I hadn’t realised it was John Carpenter’s first film). That reflection must have been tricky. The board certainly suits the pose. More mythical backstory when Pegasus enters the frame, with a very different dog-like sea monster. I like the way the figure fits in there, and the texture of the chains is a good match for the Andromeda. But shouldn’t his/her/their eyes be looking at the monster? I like the Saturday Night Fever version – what a great combination of poses! A splendid assembly scene from Ben Boardman, using a different version of the same model. I like how everything is laid out on the table in front of him. The only jarring element is the strip of photos on the left – just add a little perspective: ![]() An entertaining surfing entry, and I’m glad to see you’ve managed to get the reflections in there. Perhaps a few clouds needed in the sky to break up the monotony? A mystical scene (naturally) from Tom, featuring a gilded version of the box from the original photo. Is that the H G Wells Time Machine bottom left? Hard to see, even on the large version, as imgbb won’t let me zoom into an image. Good to see you back, Tom. It looks like Mariner has been researching his Greek myths – and that’s a glorious interpretation of the original story. I like the fact that the box has been repurposed from the original image, but it does seem curiously distorted here. The motorbike entry is very pretty, with a definitely female Andromeda. I like how you’ve added the curves, but do have to point out that her boobs seem a little lopsided. I don’t see why there shouldn’t be a plumber called Andromeda, and lwc's truck does have the figure neatly standing on the wheel arch. I do prefer the dolphin version, where it fits perfectly. The Western image is beautiful, with its subtly animated elements. And that shotgun fits neatly into Andromeda’s hands. That’s a disturbing squirrel entry, but the pose is absolutely spot on. The castle entry is interesting, with ts remarkably cute dragon. The additional Andromedas make good guards. A very fine biplane – again, making great use of the pose. I like how DavidMac has remodelled the figure by moving the arm – no mean feat, that. I do feel I have to point out that his left hand, extending towards us, is of course actually a right hand. Thumb's on the wrong side. Otherwise I like the composition. A dramatic poster from tooquilos, with great typography and composition. Very subtle Netflix branding! I like the animated version, with the swinging chain and the traffic hurtling past in the background. Very nicely put together. Andromeda does make a very fine Robin to Ant Snell’s Batman – or is it just that pointy-eared superheroes stick together? A well-chosen perspective floor to match the extreme pose, and good lighting. Very clever work from Frank, placing the figure next to its counterpart. Perfect lighting and arrangement. Hmm… maybe I should issue leather-bound editions of HotChiPs… Thanks David, for the starting point. |

Re: Challenge 1068: The Andromeda Conundrum
How embarrassing. I knew from the moment I chose it for download that I would need to flip it! It was obvious. It wasn't an easy rebuild and by the time I got to adding the hand I'd become so engrossed in colourising and matching the arm I completely forgot to flip. Not seeing the wood for the trees again! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

The only jarring element is the strip of photos on the left. Thank you Steve, glaring obvious now you have corrected it. Enjoyable Challenge. |

They were all fun to make with the western version being the most satisfying. The biplane was the most difficult... thanks Steve! |
