Incredible work from everyone! I'm having issues with Vimeo uploading the video. It's been optimising for the past few hours. I'll try again in the morning. ![]() _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Re: Challenge 1105: Rubbery crocs
First to get rubbery this week was Mariner, with a simple but effective rotation. There’s something odd about the angle compared with the perspective of the background; perhaps if the croc was at an angle, top right to bottom left? The diving board entry is very funny, with a beautiful composition. A cute Crocodile Rock, with a rather bizarre stage – is it constructed from rolls of wrapping paper? Also… those speakers on the left seem to be facing the wrong way. You seem to be getting more frivolous, Michael. The part-submerged entry has a great air of tranquility to it. I like the subtle shape of the water line, the height defined by its shadow, and the closed mouth. One suggestion, though: since the croc is made of rubber tyres it’s probably dark grey. Which means if it’s going to appear brown in your image, so should the bird on its back. Fun from Ant Snell, with daddy croc caught in the act (nice new eye, by the way). Did you make those croc shoes? Or (crikey) do they actually exist? A rallygator from DavidMac, the first in a series of dreadful puns this week. Nicely done, though: the wheels, headlamps and advertising (nicely rippled over the scales) work really well. And the perspective background is good. I don’t know who looks at a rubber crocodile and thinks “that would look good on a trapeze”, but it’s a fine image. I like how you’ve bent the necks so they’re looking at each other. A great emergence from the water from dwindt, with the croc perfectly integrated into the foam. Makes me wonder how this original photo was taken – a drone, perhaps? It took me a whole to spot the croc in the girl on a beach entry, who I assume is all 3D modelled – extraordinary. What are those lumpy things behind her? I like the part-submerged entry – very nicely done. It might be worth moving the bottom jaw so it isn’t so skewed. I enjoyed lwc's tale of the intrepid Tommy, with his prize strapped to the from of his curiously big-wheeled vehicle (what is that? Do those things actually exist?). I like the chains, and the rope holding the snout closed. And of course the Gatorade plant did sorely need upgrading. And there’s certainly no reason a rubber croc shouldn’t be an advertisement for Pirelli – I’m surprised they haven’t already copyrighted Gatorgrab. I thought GKB wouldn’t be able to resist a pun, and the alleygator is a good gag. However… look at the reflections of those pins. It’s a very shiny surface. Deserves more than just a shadow of the croc. Great subtlety from Ben Boardman, with the rubbery croc caught in the mouth of a much larger example. Is that how crocodiles carry their young? Or is she just feeling peckish? Impressed that you took this photo yourself. Perfect matching of tone and light. I like the idea of the out of bounds entry, but can’t help feeling it would have been a lot stronger if the perspectives of the two image frames matched. Easy to do, and it would make a big difference. A clever integration into the scene from Vibeke, with its neatly rippled reflection. Is this your own photo? It looks idyllic (apart from the croc). I like the addition of the battered No Swimming sign. I haven’t seen that particular edition of Darwin, but tooquilos's adaptation of what I assume is a real book cover is certainly appropriate. It’s a cover that really should come with a trigger warning. I like the scene of Darwin peering over a pile of discarded tyres in the animated version, and the way the tyres move as the croc pushes past them. And the Midjourney animation at the end is… astonishing. Wow. NAME THAT ‘GATORAlways up for a challenge, so here’s my take on DavidMac’s picture quiz. Clockwise from top right: Investigator Alleygator Interrogator Navigator Fumigator Litigator …but I’m stumped by the one in the middle. Watergator, perhaps, in a Nixon reference? Ah, looking over my shoulder Carol has got it – Irrigator! A lot of effort to go to, but greatly appreciated! |

Thanks Steve. I toyed with the idea of semi-submerging the ‘gator in the lane but didn’t have the time. Anna I loved the way the croc walked away👍 _________________ Why is it that all the contestants in the ‘Miss Universe’ contest are all from Earth? |

Thanks for feed back Steve and yes those Crocs can be seen in the flesh at most Tesco stores along with PJs and dry robes usually during the school run ( that's on customers, not for sale). |

Re: Challenge 1105: Rubbery crocs
I got there very indirectly. Once I had it cut out on a neutral background I got exactly the same vision as Mariner of a diver. When I discovered he had beat me to it I wondered if there was a variation that would work. I thought first of human canon ball (which is sort of diver upside down) and from that the trapeze popped into my head. Doing the puns was great fun because all I needed was just to communicate an idea. They were quickies without the need to be anything more. Thanks Steve. This one was far more fun than I expected. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1105: Rubbery crocs
Thank you Steve. The 2nd image is an image of a 3D render that I had done some time ago. I thought it would be ideal for an arm tattoo...the image and alligator were tweaked together in PS to match. The bumps behind her, is a rock cover with barnacles. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

They do exist, found in a Google image search for 'swamp buggy'. Thanks! |

Re: Challenge 1105: Rubbery crocs
I forgot to say well done on the seven correct puns. Funny that you stumbled a bit on Irrigator .... I thought it was really easy. I was expecting Litigator to be the one that might cause difficulty. But then it's hard to judge ...... they all seem completely obvious once you know! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
