Great use of lighting Kenney!

Whaler hope that isn't a bear skin they're sitting on otherwise they are really asking for it!

Re: Contest 83: Valentine's Day
So many excellent entries this week! And while I'd originally intended to keep that Valentines background running for the whole week, it got so I couldn't bear it. Worse than a My Little Pony website. It had to go.

First off this week was lawrenceging, with a Paris scene - at least, that's the Eiffel Tower in the background, not sure the Canadian forest is exactly right. Excellent blending of the grass over the feet and legs, and substituting the wine glass for a red rose is a nice touch - especially the way all trace of the glasses has been removed. My only slight problem here is with the eyes: those irises seem to have shrunk to the size of pinheads! A great job overall, though.

A beautiful piece of slush from Born2Run, with a soppy montage that has everything - flowers, soft focus, a winged Cupid in the background. A great etheral quality to it - although perhaps I'd have kept the heart frame more in focus. And (minor point, this) isn't the cutout around those foreground flowers a little harsh? Excellent cutout treatment in the second entry, in particular the way you've turned the two bodies around. You've described this one as an "easy time", but the technique is far from easy - and most effective!

A wonderful piece of whimsy from jimt, with a couple of alien gargoyles loving it up on the table. Fantastic skin toning, and the extras from previous challenges are a great addition. That wine bottle, though, seems a little out of perspective: a touch of Free Transform to make us look down on it more would really have helped here. And how did they manage to get white wine out of a red wine bottle? Without even taking the foil wrapper off?

A beautiful snow scene from yuvalbra, with added champagne. I think, though, that while the orange glow on the people matches that from the sunrise behind, it really needs to be coming just from that direction. Adding some blue tinting to the other side of the figures would help this one to look more realistic:

Eggbox's valentines card is a great solution, and I really like the cutout effect on the heart. The shadow of the card seems a different colour to the shadow cast by the flowers, however; and I think the scene would have been more convincing if that poppy behind the card had been brought in front of it, to place the card more firmly within the scene. Great reflection on the table, though! The second entry is splendid, though, with loads of well placed extra details - and a very finely drawn shadow from the shotgun. Excellent!

A fine desert scene from BobbyJo - good details, such as the reflection of the girl's leg in the champagne bucket. But, as you've discovered, the Color Replacement brush only goes so far: watch for those bits of blue left behind, especially on the boots!

A stunning plastic effect by mguyer that fits perfectly with the feeling of the original box. When you apply this filter, you'll need to make sure there are no large areas of flat colour, though - the front of her dress would be more convincing if it had a little more detail in it to break up that big expanse of shine. And a great sentiment in the second entry - does he realise she's pregnant, do you think?

Tom has gone all pop art, with a picture Roy Lichtenstein would be proud of. A great effect, and the curvature on the text adds a lot of dynamism to this one. Great gag, great image!

An absolutely beautiful entry from pauline, perfectly blended: the way those leaves drift over the rug is exactly right, and the addition of the picnic basket is a great touch. The added sleeves are fantastic, too - especially the added neck line - and the eye contact is spot on. Of course, we can tell it's Canada from all those maple leaves. Great work, Pauline!

Romance is certainly in the air in G E Sutton's entry. The reflection of the flowers in the glass is perfect, and the perspective of the scene thoroughly consistent - which must have been particularly tricky, given the angle you've chosen. I'm a little concerned, though, that we can't see the lower part of the people through the champagne. Are they being eaten away by some caustic acid?

A beautiful job from Bob, with a delicately placed wispy cloud and some great extras - the ring, the chocolate box, the flower in his mouth - and, of course, the perfect eye contact. Splendid! I especially like the way the rug has turned seamlessly into a cloud. Most convincing.

I have to say, I laughed out loud at mr.pbody's classic entry. The matching of the skin tones, the hair blending, the slit down the front of the dress, the ruff at his neck - absolutely perfect! And the soft focus on MiniMe places him firmly in the background. A faultless and hilarious montage, Mr P! And well deserving of an overdue title. Hmm... what's appropriate for a Photoshopping guitarist? Has to be Pixel Plucker, I think. Great work!

Plenty of amorous detail in chris's entry - the champagne, the ring, the oysters. Seems to me that plant should be in front of hte cheesy violinist, though - but I do like the banner plane. Great shadows - but next time, try the brush on Dissolve mode to make the sand more convincing!

Well, I said I wanted eye contact - and Glen has certainly given us that. What great detail, though! Especially the splash on her leg, the drips on the hand, and the diffrent texture of the stain on the rug. Disgusting. And I mean that in the most complimentary way, of course.

A charming scene from DaltonX, with a well placed basket of goodies and some great recolouring. Taking her shoes off must have been incredibly tricky - but really well achieved. I'm a little concerned about the way the horizon is sliding downhill, though! The painted version is absolutely beautiful - one of the best examples I've seen of this sort of technique. Care to share your secret with us?

It may have taken a couple of attempts, but Silver Fox finally got an image posted. Great stuff! That dress looks far better in red, and the setting is truly romantic. Aren't the people perhaps a little small for the fireplace, though? Great shadows from the flower pots, and the painting is a nice touch. Welcome to the forum, and keep up the great work!

What's on a man's mind, eh? Stefan has given us a clear indication of his intentions. But condoms aside, the tonal matching of the characters to fit the background is absolutely perfect: the shading, colouring and blending are just right. A great job, stefan.

Cosy campfire canoodling from kenney - I particularly like those bunnies in the background. The fire's been well placed here, but when you import an image in this way you have to be particularly careful of the edges: we can clearly see the left side of the fire image, as its bckground is lighter than the rest. Increasing the contrast would do the trick here!

"Pink champagne on ice"! Arf arf! a good gag from Whaler. Like the love hearts made of snow! But perhaps their shoes could be sinking into the snow a little more. And won't she catch a chill in that skimpy number?

There's a glossy, soft focus quality to Atomicfog's entry. Puts me in mind of Flaming Pear's Melancholia filter. A well composed, well balanced image. But what is it you imagine he's thinking about?

Even cyborgs can fall in love, I suppose, as jwhite would have us believe. But 7of9 and a Borged-up Picard? Don't see that relationship lasting. Beam them up, Scotty.

There's a real subtlety to Neal's threesome: getting his expression exactly right took some doing. What a cad! Fortunately, she doesn't seem to have noticed yet. Let her have Valentine's day in peace!

What a brilliant week this has been!

Bob, I LOVE the expression on her face created by the eyes you made. Reading your comment and then seeing the expression HER eyes created made me laugh pretty hard.

Looking at each picture with eyes added, isn't it amazing how much they can change the expression on a person's face?

hahaha Quite honestly, I'm no wine drinker so that's something I wouldn't even notice! Thanks for the comments, Steve, as they are ALWAYS appreciated.

What a brilliant week this has been!

I couldn't agree more. This is only my second challenge, but in the making of this one, I scanned through MOST of the past challenges looking for things to use (and generally ideas). I must say, this is one of the best and most entertaining so far. I haven't viewed this thread in a few days and seeing the newer additions really made me laugh. Good stuff, guys!

I look forward to Friday mornings and checking out the critique!! I don't even wait until I've had my breakfast!
Steve you have an amazing eye for the details and I find that when I read your critiques as I look at each post you point out things I haven't noticed. It really is a terrific way to improve our 'seeing'.

I look forward to this weeks challenge. First I must fix up a photo I'm entering in a contest and geez, I'd better make my daughter's birthday card since her birthday is tomorrow!!! So much to do on Fridays!!
