Re: Contest 228: Skating on thin ice
Thanks James, Josephine and Kate.

Kate, I took Steve's method of creating ice cubes in HTCIP and just took it one stage further. Instead of using dodge and burn to create the detail on the grey, I used the High Pass filter on the image to find the edges, then inverted with a Screen blend mode, and then applied Plastic Wrap to them and reduced the opacity.

After that it was a case of overlaying a coloured layer matching the existing sculptures, then a lot of manual work with the blur tool to smooth the ice effect out. Added a few burnt out highlights with the dodge tool, tweaked the colour balance to match the other sculptures and that was basically it.

Glad you liked it.

No time this week, but great entries.

James that skating is so smooth. Excellent - as a matter of interest how many frames was that, and how long did it take?

Wayne, that was great

Josephine, did you enjoy dressing up dolls when you were younger! Very clever.

Sounds like a lot of work, Wayne, but it's definitely successful!

Wayne, I think your ice is streets ahead of the tutorial - excellent.

The Animators, Anna and James, have done a fantastic job again this week. Fabulous work

Nick

Thanks Nick. I thought the ice effect in the tut was good but I just couldn't get the same thing when I tried to apply it to the skater

Re: Contest 228: Skating on thin ice
I thank you Deborah and Nick.

Deborah,
There are 48 frames & 52 layers. Time around 20 hrs (what else is there? I don’t fancy outdoor activities this weather, just keep the garden tidy)
Creating the elements took most of the time. Background consists of two units and much cloning. The skater has ten different poses. Twenty hours does seem a lot, but I do enjoy. Mad! Mad! Mad!

James, that is absolutely spectacular!!! As far as my skater goes, i did think of having her fall down the crevice, but time and other factors stopped me. I had great plans for her...

Josephine, the avatar is a scream!! cant help but giggle each time i see it.

Wayne, your "ice" skater is superb.

Thank you Nick once again for your kind words.

Eventually (MS problems) got your gif Anna. Its great now I can see it!
And James too.
Wayne superb, you should take them to Sweden/Finland's Ice Hotel and/or China Harbin Ice City, and thanks for your hints how you created the image

Brr... These have been once again outstanding. It's much colder here (west of Seattle in the US) than usual so no new outfit for skate girl- can't stand to look at ice any longer.

Thank you Anna. Yes time is elusive, slips by without being noticed.

Maiden. I can't argue with that.

Never got the chance to do my second image, dang. Just want to say well done to everyone who did the challenge this week, there's been some very clever ideas and carefully thought out images.
Well done to all!

I've seen pictures of the Ice Hotel, but didn't know there was an Ice City in China!

I spent way too long making this and as an added challenge I didn't use any source images from anything related to the Terminator

But after watching the Terminator T.V. series and viewing this thread, the next step in Terminator evolution seemed so obvious... The Terminskater.
