Oh yeah - Renoir thats the one I meant ![]() Now she has gone I can see the shape of a giant eye - was that intentional ? Either way it is a very elegant piece - maximum transformation by minimum means _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Contest 239: Poster power
After extraction, in isolation, I had to question if the figure was Renoir too and had to double check, I'd even called the layer Manet at one stage! Aparently, he changed his style halfway through the "Umbrellas" painting, from his famous impressionistic painting style, due to a "cricis" of disillusionment with that style. www.nationalgallery.org.uk/cgi-bin/WebObjects.dll/CollectionPublisher.woa/wa/work?workNumber=ng3268 Yes the transformation was easy with PS, but the subsequent re-shading and adding highlights to align with it in the 3D space took a bit more time. (No 3D sw used). I hope it looks convincing enough. The original idea was not intentionally meant to look like a giant eye to start with, but subsequently it kept staring! It gets attention though!? Thanks again Josephine! |

No - j'aime Asterix et je l'ai lu en Francais "Ils sont foux les - " seems to be one of Obelix's popular sayings ! _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Contest 239: Poster power
&ntFirst to enter this week is Jeepy, who has fired the poster into space. Great lighting on the poster, and the lens flares make good stars: a very neat series of spaceships, too, all with custom shadows. To place the poster more in the scene, I would have moved the front spaceship slightly to the left, so it just covered the bottom of the poster. And I like the topical second entry with Michael Jackson. A little retro titillation from mguyer: the photographers, though, seem more interested in the Money Exchange next door. I assume the one in the front is you, Marty, is do we take it that Sheila is one of the glamour models? Good glass effect in the second entry. I liked the smoke and flames from Jota120's blasting rocket, but I feel the flame could have been tucked behind the cycle fixing in the foreground. Very good altered perspective on the pillar, though - it moves very effectively higher in the scene. And I really enjoyed the second entry - the added bus is a terrific new prop. A couple of entertaining posters from GKB - and I'm always rather embarrassed to be featured so prominently! Not a bad head fit, but shouldn't the lighting on my face match that on the body? I like the posters, but on the upper one the small text doesn't seem distorted to match the curve of the image. Was this added later? Excellent second entry - the colouring is beautiful, and a great couple of extra characters! A great entry from Les Moore, with a terrific night scene: the posters are perfectly illuminated, with a good glow on the ground behind and the wall to the side. Great lights, and I like the suggestion of a moving flash given by one being more brightly illuminated - good call. Subtle use of fireworks and lens flare - a great job! Our second night scene of the week is from Nick Curtain, with great illumination. What makes this particularly convincing is the odd splashes of light in the background: the lit window, the O2 sign, the distant streetlamps and traffic lights (great green light reflection in the window). That looks like quit a contest, too - do you think the O2 arena is big enough? An interesting approach from AndyL: rather than moving the pedestrian's gaze, he's given her a focal point to look at. Excellent lighting on the figure, and the night effect looks good in the background. The poster is perhaps slightly too distorted, but the idea is good! Excellent solution from Daniel H - and the pillar is perfectly placed within the crowd. Very good detail: I like the tiny poster on the back of the camera in the foreground! Very good work. Animated GIF posters - now there's an idea! James has come up with a good solution. Now that really would be eyecatching. A great job moving it to Mars in the second entry - but is that a chunk of bicycle rail still remaining? An ingenious solution from brewell - and a well designed couple of town crier boards. I particularly like the way the woman's head has been tilted to look at them, to very good effect. I'd question the perspective on the boards, though: the top of the one in front needs to have its top left corner rather higher, I'd have thought, and the rear one could do with being sheared down slightly on the right. Tricky stuff, perspective! Oxford Street, London meets Oxford Street, Sydney in tooquilos' animated Mardi Gras homage: some great rippling of all kinds going on here. I do like the man having trouble with his costume, but isn't he a little small? And surely all that Sydney sunshine would give him less of a ghostly pallor? A charming and fun-packed entry from Josephine Harvatt - great posters, a great cast of characters. And, I have to say, I do look rather fetching in a top hat. I see you've opened your own shop, too! I like the screen effect in the second entry. Entertaining banking posters from vibeke, and a particularly good reflection effect on the glass. A well chosen cast of extras here - but where's the rain on the man on the left coming from? Truly beautiful work from katew: the fish, the reflection on the glass, the position and pose of the two onlookers, all perfect. Just a touch of shadow needed beneath their feet, and we're done! Oh, and the man on the left could do with some toes. Really funny work from Ben Mills - now there's a marketing opportunity that's yet to be exploited! A great fit, a good crowd - very nice work, Ben. Funny work from Cl&m - I like the sheared pillar, with the straight tower of Pisa! The real clever work here is in rebuilding the background - recreating that main in the blue shirt is ingenious. But why is Obelix so ragged and marbled? Surely there are better pictures of him available? An excellent idea from Deborah Morley - now that's a good use of the pillar! The door looks a little flat, somehow; perhaps it's the shading? And is the door too tall for the size of the people? I like the queue of people, though - well chosen. Good work, everyone! |

Thanks Steve, I actually made the door too low at first, have gone too far the other way now. Will try more shading on the door. Love Stefan's banner. |

Thanks Steve, as for the wet man, he just looked so right for the scene, I couldn't resist using him. Somebody probably threw a bucket of water over him. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
