Some great entries, but I'm afraid I won't be able to enter this week. I'm on holiday in Vietnam, so time is short.

Creepy Stefan - I love all the ageing techniques being used including Lexus's magnificently crumpled card

Hello everybody,

I see that there are very good works. I like the Stefan, it makes me wonder what the man is doing there.

I am back from vacation, so here is my quick attempt.

That really upsets me.............. nothing against you Emil, well presented

Here many people kill themselves. I know at least two close to me, ....... not recorded that way of course.

Life, and death. Grim

Positive:
If you want it will get it, so I still hate this subject, but Emil and others have had a some great work, even Jota120(me), got my Dad's grave in there.

Re: Contest 244: Another grave business
Spookiness abounds this week, as I suspected it might. Celia, to answer your question: the graveyard is in Mildenhall, Suffolk. Most of the graves date from the late 19th century, and they're all in a fairly awful state of repair.
First to crawl out of the tomb this week was Nick Curtain, with a skeletal, night-time entry. So dark, in fact, that it's hard to see what's going on here. I like the way those gravestones are lit only on one side, and the shadows cast by them - very neat. But is the frontmost skeleton trying to exit from both inside and outside the grave? Won't he get stuck?

I love Ben Mills' idea of Time Team recruiting Lara Croft - now there's an archaeologist who could add some interest to the format. (For those from outside the UK, Time Team is a TV show about digging up the past. Astute viewers might recognise the presenter as Blackadder's former sidekick Baldrick.) The two guys do certainly seem impressed by her more pneumatic qualities. I particularly like the way her foot is blended into that long grass.

Some detailed skeletal realignment from GKB, who's created a large variety of poses and characters. Best of all here are the animal skeletons, of which there are many: a couple of dogs, a monkey in the tree, even a flying bird. Trying to figure out the object bottom left - is that a fish? I really like the interaction here. I like the dog's dropped bone! Very enjoyable, a great piece.

An intriguing entry from brewell, with an elderly chap in a beret seemingly uninterested in the scene of passion before him. He's a great fit, nestling neatly into that grave (although it must be rather uncomfortable): couldn't the couple have found a more discreet place for their fumblings, though?

A beautiful night scene from tooquilos, complete with bat, howling wolf and ghostly apparition - and a great set of stone carving, too. I like the heartfelt soundtrack to the animated version - sounds like you've hard your fill of that tiler! But why are the flash animations always so small? Is there no way of showing them bigger?

Some subtle desaturation by steve mac, whose skeleton blends nicely into the scene: I like the idea of him using his arm as a dog toy. Kind of a weird dog, though - is it made of modelling clay? More fur needed here!

An emotive piece from Emma - a great new location, and some good photography in the poses. The figure on the left could do with some shadow, to ground him more firmly into the scene: at present it looks a little as if he's floating above it. I do feel sorry for the dog.

A nightmare vision from Jeepy: a great night view, and I like the elegance of the curves shooting out of the main figure. Good zombie eyes and a neatly distorted body - scary stuff!

A neat postcard rendering from Lexus - hey, I recognise that crumpled paper! One thing to watch: your white border is too even. When the paper is crumpled at the edges, as it is top right, the border should be thinner. It's just too regular.

I love Luis' detailed assembly - a very neat combination of elements, with excellent shadows adding a good sense of realism (although the picture's shadow should bend over the pen). And the ghost in the image is just right - exactly the sort of "maybe-maybe not" view ghost hunters so often produce. How much of this image is hand drawn?

A bit of political comment from The Mad Lep, with a ghostly Grim Reaper being harassed by a taxpayer from beyond the grave. Good fitting of the skeleton in here - but shouldn't the Reaper's hood have a hole in the front for his face?

A great rendering of Frankenstein's monster from mguyer, his feet neatly sinking into the grass. Good tone matching here - most convincing, Marty! Although how you persuaded Sheila to put the costume on is beyond me.

Another view of Powerslave's heavy metal prediliction - with a fantastic array of additional gravestones. I like the figure bursting out of the grave. Some great carving here, too, but watch the lighting direction: on some, such as "up the irons", the lettering appears embossed rather than engraved.

Good to see Jota120 has come to terms with his demons, and turned in an intriguing entry - is that gloopy pile in the grave the mortal coil that's been shuffled off, then? I'm having some trouble reading that one! But I do like the ghost - although cloning out the dress straps would have helped here. A nice relocation in the second entry - but wouldn't Elvis have resurrected closer to Memphis?

An interesting fantasy from horonggo, with a well placed extra gravestone. I think the figures are just too low in the scene, though - and we can lose the base from the camel!

I'm was really intrigued by Josephine Harvatt's automaton entry - love the brasswork - and I was eager to get my penny out to see what happened. I wasn't disappointed: the animated version works just like the old end-of-the-pier machines. The first skeleton seems to have lost more than just his arm, though - has his layer mask shifted up?

Entertaining work from Les Moore, whose illuminated gravestones pack a great emotional punch. A great quality of light here, with a neat reflection in the water: but shouldn't the water be at an angle to match the scene? And the Microsoft badge could certainly do with a touch of rotation to fit that stone. Nice work overall!

A beautiful entry from michael sinclair, with a stunning original image of a packed graveyard. You need to raise the graves relative to the church, though - we're looking up at the nearby stones, but the angle on the church is from a higher perspective. A very funky sky, and cool animation make this a very powerful piece.

A lot of work has gone into james' animation - the broken grave has been rebuilt with painstaking accuracy, well worth the applause given it by the skeleton. I like the translucent nature of the ghost, and the rise and collapse of the skeleton!

Ingenious work from katew - the light at the bottom of those cellar steps is spot on. Great integration into the scene of the figure and the kegs, too - a most convincing scene. And what a great idea, too.

Very classy work from Wayne Morton: I don't know where the inspiration came from, but that Land Rover fits beautifully into the scene. The stone texture, the way it's buried in the grass are exactly right. And I like the Liverpool badge on the gravestone in the back. Not a Chelsea fan, by ay chance?

A completely unique, entrancing image from stefan: what a bizarre figure! Is there a story behind him? Fantastic ageing of the image, too - there's an almost tactile quality to this one.

Fantastic expression on the face of the girl in Emil's entry - and the position of the ball tells the whole story. I really like the way the background has been blurred out of focus here, it concentrates the attention on the foreground perfectly. I feel the hand coming out of the grave should be more gnarled, though: is it just too young?

Trevor - lighten up!

Great work this week.

Good morning Steve,
The skeleton at bottom left is actually a chameleon!! It looked too good to leave out.

I think i can safely say that i'm not a big Chelsea fan Steve . Fantastic game though. My only inspiration was the shape of the original grave, it just looked like the front of a 4x4 vehicle to me. Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated.
