Re: Challenge 290: a block of ice
Thanks Steve
I created the ice using the 'ice cubes in the glass' method featured in the book, with a couple of applications of plastic wrap. The lettering was loaded as a selection and used to copy that portion of the background scene onto a new layer. I applied a Levels adjustment / gaussian blur and a little ripple filter. I think the displacement map would have worked well.

did you have to draw all those perspectives manually?

Thanks for the comments as always Steve... Thankfully, no - using Transform, Alt + Arrows, followed by Transform perspective, seemed to work, just! The worse bit was drawing / duplicating each of the rounded rectangles, and lining them up first. It seemed to take forever, and resulted in too many layers !

The phrase "you really need to get a life" was uttered on a couple of occassions by others that day

But why are the letters leaning together like that? Is it to strengthen the sense of scale and perspective? You'd need to distort the background as well, in that case.

Hmm. I never really considered vertical perspective until today. That explains a lot. Now I'll grab my transformer and mess with those mountains on the horizon. And, perhaps I'll finally be able to use a photo of overhead clouds in an intelligent way.

Re: Challenge 290: a block of ice
One more thing, if anyone is still reading. I discovered something on this exercise that I'd like to pass on:

When using Plastic Wrap :
Image / Adjustment / Selective Color / Neutral Colors

I could change the color of the wrap itself! Overlaid on another colored layer yields great colorful things - real good for veins and arteries

Thanks, Steve. Refraction? Ah! Gotcha. An easy adjustment for a big difference. You sure have a master eye. Nothing gets by ya!

Re: Challenge 290: a block of ice
Thanks Steve. I will have to revisit the horizon / perspective. I'm not too sure I understand what to do to fix it at this moment.

there's just too big a gap between the bottom of the C and its reflection

Hi Steve.
From my view that part of the C is lifted off the surface so would not meet the reflection.
