Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
A very quick entry didn't think I'd find time to do anything this week, I spent several days on the West Coast crawling around in the bush photographing fungi.

I will post a link in off topics.

Nice Vibeke. An important item mostly overlooked is ground clutter.

Something I would have liked adding to my submission; dampness, ground clutter, debris and a few rats...the wagons missing a body or 2 but like you, time is against me.

Dennis, the lighting is beautiful.

Vibeke, the leaves are a great touch.

David, did you make Peregrination? It is excellent!

Michael, your scene is wonderful. Looks like it belongs. Very well done.

Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
Thanks Dwindt, I made the same mistake last week, looked for the comments a day too soon. Must be old age.
Thanks Anna, I felt it needed the leaves to tie it all together.
There are some amazing entires this week, you are all so talented.

The Golden Hind
Your Golden Hind works really well Micheal. I think I prefer it to the Red Lion.

As ever simple and completely convincing. The leaves tie it together perfectly.

Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
Lighting is great Dennis. And the authentic leather mask.

Twenty years ago! Using Corel Photopaint. Last thing before moving to Photoshop.

Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
First to enter the Golden Lion this week was lwc, with a great animated train. I particularly like the reflection in the puddle. The only problem is the reflection in the pub window, which shouldn’t be at an angle. The second entry is much better, but the reflected train should be at the same height as the original! Ah - there we go, the third entry gets it spot on. Excellent work, Loyd, and great that you respond so readily to suggestions.

I greatly enjoyed DavidMac's movie set, complete with green screen - and with the cinematic view in the second entry. I like the difference in viewpoint between the two, and the neat reflections in the window. Very well judged. Great surrealism in the third entry, with its multiple aquatic viewpoints. Personally I’d have lost the diver in the foreground, who seems a little prosaic in comparison with the exuberant fantasy. The 20-year-old board game is a glorious extravagance. Please work out some rules - this would be a very good game to play! Since you’re fond of both Myst and The Room, two of my absolute favourites, can I recommend (a) Monument Valley on the iPad, which captures much of the confusing perspectives of your Escher drawing, and (b) splash out on an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, which will allow you to play both Myst and a wholly new Room incarnation in gloriously immersive form.

I knew with certainty that tooquilos would go for a night-time shot, as soon as I saw that lamp on the side of the pub. And it’s beautiful: that rickety building at the end of the street really draws the eye. I like the rain and lighting effects in the animated version. The animated lion is a real treat!

A splendid Venetian setting from Josephine Harvatt, with good reflections and a perfect perspective match. Now that’s what I call a puddle upgrade.

A lick, spit and polish from Mariner, along with a very neat street extension. I do approve of the removal of that green box. Deliberate mistake? I assume you’re referring to the colour-shifted pub name. But I must also point out the reflection in the pub window: assuming the buildings across the street run parallel to those on this side, the reflected view should be much flatter than that. The seaside setting in the second entry is magnificent. My only complaint: straighten your reflected horizon!

Very impressive swan action from michael sinclair, the subtle neck movement adding a lot of realism to the birds. And good to see the original image where you got the wings. I like the pub nestled into the cliff face: the windows look great, but they might want to seal off the front door.

I always enjoy the atmosphere that dwindt brings to his images, and this one is no exception: it captures an era perfectly. I really hope you have time to fill that cart - desperate to find out what he’s investigating. Brightening the second entry helps a lot, as it allows me to see the plague mask more clearly. Still waiting for a cartload of bodies, though.

I like the added leaves in Vibeke's entry, but why do they stop dead at the end of the pavement? It would tie the whole view together if they continued across the road. The autumnal trees a match well, though, and the curtains in the pub window are a good way to deal with the reflection.

The path is a single horizontal plane. Every link between levels or change of level is impossible.

Thanks, Steve. Reflections are so difficult, I will get them wrong from time to time.

Thanks Steve. This week was, unsurprisingly, great fun for me. I’ve been resisting headsets so far. Maybe …..mm….

Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
Thank you Steve, You are right of course, the curtains were there to get away from the reflections, as I only started this late this afternoon I took the easy way out. The cars had made the leaves disappear from the street.

Re: Challenge 855: The Golden Lion
Thank you Steve and I'm glad you're in good health and that I've caught up with what day it is.

I started looking for bodies last night but then decided it was too late but it really needs more, maybe water trickling between the cobbles, bit of moss and some rats...and a moose...lol.
