Re: Contest 223: Declining years
Apologies for a rather belated Happy Birthday message (and not even an image attached). I've been off line all week and only just managed to get an extremely slow and unstable connexion. Can't wait to see Anna's post and all the others when I'm back online.

Hope you had a great birthday, Steve! And you too, Nick!

Well, what a great way to celebrate my birthday! You've really done me proud, folks. Made a happy man very old. And interesting to see how many of you are hovering around the half century mark...

A skateboarding image from maiden, encouraging me to live life to the max. A nicely blue face there, Becky, great sense of movement.

A chorus from mguyer and Sheila - thanks, Marty!

A decidedly youthful me from new forum member Rikii - now if only my hair were straight, I might just attempt a style like that! Welcome to the forum, Ricardo.

Vibeke sees me as a future Prime Minister - after my hair has turned white, that is. Think I might just pass on the politics, though.

A visual gag from Steve Mac - and you're absolutely right. I've been wearing reading glasses for a year now. And I do look good with a beard in the second entry, too.

I seem to have acquired presidential status in Neil O's entry. A fantastic "50 Years" adaptation - great work, Neil!

A rather splendid cake from Nick Curtain. Photoshop? Or is this one real?

Andy L is another suggesting I take up a dangerous sporting activity. Are you all hinting at something?

Metropolis meets Rocket Man meets Dr Who in Josephine Harvatt's wonderful composition - what a terrific piece of work! Fabulous!

Some Eastern wisdom from gaoxiguo - with a neat strap holding the copy of Photoshop on the sage's back. Cool.

I loved GKB's Easter card - but I think you're spending too much on stamps, Gordon.

I know I'm 50, Wayne, but I still think I have a way to go before I catch up on the Stones... funny, though, I've always felt they could really do with an accordion player.

A great image from brewell, my head neatly twisted to another angle. And I see you've dredged up an old interface design!

A triumphal entry from michael sinclair - a most neatly integrated head. Funny, though, that these soldiers should wear so much armour but leave so much exposed. And always good to see American Gothic making an appearance!

Ellen has me receiving a Photoshop medal from what looks like two plastic beefeaters. Or perhaps they're escorting me off the premises?

I see Neal's dredged up a couple of my old girlfriends for the photo shoot. Heavens - have you three actually met??? Love the band entry.

A full band entry from james - now I can see why I play the guitar so badly. I should be using both hands! A great animation - even if the number does appear backwards when the plane is upside down...

More oriental wisdom, this time with an Irish flavour - The Mad Lep has neatly adapted a statue of Confucius. Great lettering!

A great newspaper cover from katew. I'd always referred to it as HTCIPS before, but I think Hotchips is a much better nickname. That one's going to stick!

Glorious work from Luis - that record is absolutely convincing! Fabulous!

Suggestions of a second childhood from Philbo - all very welcome, but perhaps the regression therapy is going a little too far.

Old age as a French peasant, suggests Eggbox - and, you know, it's an appealing idea! Love the ageing technique, but I really should swap the Yorkshire flat cap for a beret.

An astonishing aount of work has gone into tooquilos' entry, with page after page of brilliant montage - fabulous! And the flash version adds a great soundtrack... wonderful, Anna! I love it!

I see Ben Mills has been putting an Art & Design tutorial to good use - what a great cutout image! Great work. And what a gruesome taste of the future in the second entry!

A band-inspired image from Deborah Morley, with me playing the... hang on! This guitar only has four strings! No wonder I can't play!

A truly wonderful set of images this week - I feel greatly touched. Many, many thanks to all of you for helping to make my first half century so entertaining!

Hi Steve
Hope you had a great brithday. The cake is real I'm afraid, I just didn't have time to bake one myself and the only ingredient added was a new gradient background with some noise.

Nick

I think you'll find it's snowboarding, Steve. Skateboards have wheels surely you haven't missed out of that part of the 70's? hehe
