Contest 75: Turkey trimming
Well, only a couple of weeks to go now until Christmas. And this bird is due for my festive table, but frankly it looks too scrawny to feed the family. Can you fatten it up in time for the big day? I'd be willing to accept a vegetarian alternative, if you prefer. High res is here; image courtesy of PhotoObjects.net. ![]() |

I'm sure we'll see what we can do ... but that bird looks rather unwell ... not sure i'd want it any where near my table! ![]() |

Indeed, he does look a bit scrawny. I think he may be stuffed. Still, at least that will save on sage and onion. |

I don't get what you want us to do. Make the turkey look cooked? Make it fat, but still alive? Please Reply. _________________ 3 Radio Visit http://www.3-radio.co.uk and listen! You will love it! |

While asking I was in the middle of a picture, but sadly I couldn't make all the colours match, but I have given it in anyways. ![]() _________________ 3 Radio Visit http://www.3-radio.co.uk and listen! You will love it! |

That's just the sort of thing! Keep working on the picture. Here's a hint: you just need to lower at the contrast on the face. |

That is one putrid looking bird. Seriously, I feel like vomiting just looking at it. _________________ |

Those are fantastic G. E. Sutton especially the first one the way you have placed Steve's face on Dr Frankenstein and the intergration of the turkey on the table with absolute expert toning to match the original I wouldn't mind a few pointers on exactly how you achieved it. Simply brilliant stuff. ![]() _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Contest 75: Turkey trimming
Thank you so much for the kind remarks Maiden; I love to see words like “expert” and “brilliant” tossed my way ![]() I would like to say that it was all child’s play and not much of a challenge for a pro like me, but I prefer to be honest. It is nothing any of you could not have achieved in half of the six hours I spent on it. The fact is that what you see is a direct result of Steve’s book. I have worked with Photoshop for years out of necessity because so many clients are too cheap to hire a graphic artist to contribute to their software projects; a real shame that I continuously advise against. And despite being paid for my artistic contributions over the years, I would never call myself a “professional” graphic artist; for to do so would be an insult to the talents of the real professionals I have had the pleasure working with over the years. As a result of this demand on my skills, I have read innumerable books on PS over the years, and still I struggled to achieve even the most rudimentary results. I had never drawn a path with the pen, but thanks to Steve, I don’t hesitate to jump in now (with pretty good results). And I still can’t work wonders with curves, despite Steve’s insight (recognizing things like “well there’s obviously too much blue in the hand to match the face” still eludes me). In my gothic piece, I rebuilt Steve’s eyes per chapter eight so I could position them correctly. Then I pasted it in and reduced the opacity so I could see to size it correctly. Next I created a layer mask (which I had never used before--goodbye eraser) and removed Steve’s mouth area so I could match the skin tones. From there it was desaturated and then endless tweaking of brightness, contrast, sharpening, blurring, color balance, etc. (I am still a novice despite Steve’s wonderful book). In the end it was such a good match that I left Dr. Frankenstein’s mouth in place of Steve’s to reuse that expression (and make my own monster from two men ![]() The turkey wasn’t as easy. I rebuilt the table to remove the original monster, and then more hours of the same sort of tweaking. All I really have going for me is no social life and lots of patience. Working in black and white also helps cover many sins. If I had gone for the bright colors like you and Atomic, the result would have looked far more amateurish. Thanks again, and I hope this one is around when Steve comes to take a look; I really appreciate all feedback and pointers. So often I can tell that things are “just not right”, but knowing how to fix it is the real skill I am trying to develop. |

Re: Contest 75: Turkey trimming
The use of Dr. Frankencaplin's ![]() The whole image works so well that if it wasn't for the fact that I know it's montaged I could be easily fooled into thinking it was a staged scene. Well done. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |
