Contest 107: 101 uses for a gherkin
The Gherkin - aka 30 St Mary Axe, home of Swiss Re insurance company - is a recent but already much-loved addition to the London skyline.

It's an iconic design, so much so that the insurance company is having some difficulty renting out the lower floors: it's so firmly associated with them that other companies feel overshadowed.

So what other uses might we find for a used gherkin? Bear in mind that overtly hardcore entries are discouraged, even if the building does happen to be extraordinarily phallic in construction.

High res is here.

Phase II Traffic Reduction for London is Ken Livingstone's pet project and he's decided to make full use of the Gherkin by combining office space with airship refueling. Cleopatra's Needle doesn't escape either. That will be used for single seater airships.

Hey Pierre, actually the only filters I used was for lense flare and a lighting filter. My Eye Candy has yet to arrive.

I put 3 photos together to get this effect and was pretty pleased with the result. It was just one of those great PS mornings! I also made use of blend modes and a hue/saturation adjustment.

Ok I haven't gotten past the first couple of chapters yet. But I have had an idea I wanted to try for a while.

Here's my first entry into the Friday Challege.

I am going to work on this idea some more and in hi-res , but here's my first attempt.

SnowDog

PS. From my lawyer :

" The artist otherwise hereforth known as " SnowDog " had nothing to do with the likeness of Mr. Steve Caplin's likeness in the use of Joker card in this image. Its just coinedence that it closely resembles Mr. Caplin. "

Keiko, you beat me to it. When I first saw the name of this weeks challenge the first thing I thought of was "pickles" Then I looked at the picture and it re-enforced it for me. I wanted to do the other one first though and only got my pickle entry started! You did a great job on it.

Snowdog, great first entry and I look forward to seeing more of your work. It's wonderful to see some new people joining in on the fun.

Restoration of this historic monument was hindered by a shortage of granite monoliths. Some improvisation was required.
