Contest 240: Maritime mayhem
I spent some time in London's National Maritime Museum over the weekend, which has a wide range of entertaining and interesting seafaring artefacts. I was taken with the construction of this display case, which has been made to look as if it's constructed of rusted metal and ship's planking.

The object inside, though, is rather dull, and the walls (this was the children's gallery) are overpowering. Could we come up with a better setting, and a more interesting exhibit?

High res is here.

I don't know about you but I think we would save ourselves a lot of trouble if we just left it in there.

Whoa! Gordon - that is scary !

Here is my take on it - I kept to the Maritime theme but I think the exhibit must have escaped from last week's entry.

For those who do not know, the "Feejee Mermaid" was a celebrated hoax (part monkey part haddock?) by the showman Phineas Barnum, and the sign "To the Egress" a reference to the notice Barnum put up in his sideshow ... visitors would follow it expecting to find some exotic creature only to find the exit .

Re: Contest 240: Maritime mayhem
My mum owned a teapot that had a wind up key at the bottom and when the tea was poured, a little ballerina would dance to the tune - Only Fools Rush In. I was always mesmerised by this, as a child. I now have this teapot, but of course, Ive lost the little ballerina Thats the inspiration for my FC this week

Re: Contest 240: Maritime mayhem
I thought I would stay with the maritime and children theme.

Some fab entries again - I particularly like the dinosaur and the Darth Vader for attention to detail and imagination
