Contest 242: Flying the flag, part 2
A slightly more technical Challenge this week, after last week's flights of fancy.

Here's a flag I photographed a few months ago. It was outside a military airbase, and the blue serves to indicate something or other - not sure what, sometimes it's red, sometimes it's green.

The important thing about this flag, though, is that it has no design on it. And that's what I want you to remedy: I'd like you to place your own country's flag onto this one, making the result as convincing as you can.

Not easy, this one. I don't think there's any quick way of doing this. But can you make your flag look real?

High res is here.

Heheh... Might just have to wave the white flag with this one, Steve!

But, all of a sudden, the Union flag starts to look rather complicated (and the Cross of St.George starts to look more appealing).

Good point. OK, to help those who find this just too damn challenging, let's say you can pick any flag you like!

Hmmm, a plain blue flag could be an option then.

I'm not happy with it. (I can see millions of little faults.)

But I'll have to do for now - gone for a slightly "washed-out" (weathered) look:

P.s. I was joking in my previous comment. (Looks like I'm going to have to hold up a flag with "**JOKE**" written on it! )

This is really bad. We are not nationlists here. I have respect for all nations and keep it that way. (Indpendent).

Maybe just me living in many countries.

I went at this in 2 different ways, neither of which I can now remember, due to an over-abundance of layers.

This first one I got to the end with, only to discover the image I used had a shadow on it which I didn't notice. Hawk Eye I ain't.
But I still like it better than the second one, which ended up looking like a football jersey someone washed too many times and is now a dingy, grey colour.
All in all, not one of my better challenges.

Jota,

Relax!

I think you're viewing this in a way that Steve never intended - I think you're taking this "Flag waving" (excuse the pun) a little too literally. I imagine that what Steve had in mind (and maybe he can back me up on this) is the kind of colourful spectacle that one would see at the Olympics' opening ceremony, for example. The flags are not shouting, "We're here to invade," but merely, "We're here and this is where we're from." (Nobody's doing any Swastika flags or anything equally distasteful.)

I guess that Steve hoped for (in no particular order) : British, Welsh, English, Scottish, Irish, Isle-of-Man, French, German, Italian, Spanish, American, Canadian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian and Kiwi flags, etc. (Apologies to anyone I've left out!) It's just like the World Map he created of forum members.

**JOKE**
Anyhow, we could also relate the flags to the Formula 1 podium at the end of the race - judging by the recent testing and practice sessions, I guess that young Lewis' Union Flag isn't going to be waving this year - the only flag he'll be seeing this year will be during the race and it'll be the blue one (like in Steve's picture) - "PULL OVER - YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE LAPPED!"

I hope I'm wrong!

I give up. Therefore mine is white.
.

But seriously, folks: hills and valleys - light to shadow - displace

... that's my strategy.

Mad Lep:

It's the shadow on the first one that makes it authentic. Go away and look at it later - you might see that it's really very good.
