Challenge 253: Bring him to life, part 2
We haven't done one of these for a while, and I always think it's an interesting technique to master.

One of the things I saw on my trip to Norway a few weeks ago was the Stalinist-inspired City Hall, a monstrous red brick building. The facade is decorated with statues of working men (men only, as it happens - the statues of women are in the park in front, carrying children). Here's one of the statues.

This is the first time I've seen a statue of an overweight, shirtless boatman. What must the original model have looked like? Can you bring this statue to life?

High res (cut out version) is here.

Nice to see someone less than six packed as a hero of the people though.

International Battle of the Fats: Minnesota vs. Georgia

Editor's Note: Minnesota Fats was a famous pool player whose character inspired the movie "The Hustler" starring Jackie Gleason and Paul Newman.

Brilliant Ben. Is that the face of an old Eastenders character, one of the Mitchell brothers?

Hi all. New member. I was fortunate enough to witness the multi-talented Steve Caplin at a recent RetouchPRO LIVE event. I immediately put his books on my wish list. Then I thought I'd stop by to join the fun here, perhaps make some new friends and improve my own skills.

Thanks Sophie.
No, it's not Phil or Grant. I just googled for a bald headed man and found one looking in the right direction. The other organ transplants are from a Rusian weightlifter.

Guys and gals, you may wish to examine perspective on this one. I believe we are looking up at the figure and that eye height would be approximately level with the top of the rock. I've tried to prove this in the attached image, but having not been there it is difficult to tell whether the building in the background is true. Perhaps Mr C will enlighten me. Upon reflection I believe my boatman is slightly too low in the frame.

Hi Nick, I think you are right. We might be level with his knee caps. I think your creation this week is great. Can you tell me how you got the skin looking so good and avoided the original texture?
