Challenge 291: Potter, Jackson - what next?
I was struck by the poster for the new movie Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, which is such a direct copy of the Harry Potter posters it's almost a parody: the three characters in the foreground, two male and one female; the dramatic lighting; the blue tint; the swirling lightning-smoke effect. So I was thinking: how could we apply this technique to other images of famous people? Your task this week: choose three well-known characters, ideally two male and one female, and give them the Harry Potter poster treatment. They could be politicians, or film stars, or musicians - the choice is yours. If you want to know how to do the metallic lettering, you could always ask Wayne Morton, who did this week's banner.

Now this really is a cheat because a) its not Harry Potter b)it not anyone famous just friends and family and c) its one I made earlier So, not my proper entry but I just wanted to share  _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Steve, do you think it might have been the same marketing team? Perhaps they recycle their work (as many probably do through time pressures etc) although they obviously didn't bargain on being spotted! Out of interest, could there be any potential copyright issues here? |

Oh, this is certainly intentional - it's the same director who did the first two Harry Potter films, and they're clearly trying to cash in on the genre by producing a clear rip-off of the style. As for copyright... I think we're probably safe with this one. Doesn't it count as fair comment? |
