Challenge 375: Light my fire
November 5th is the day when we in Britain celebrate the foiled Gunpowder Plot of 1605, at which Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The evening event is staged all over the country, and involves bonfires and fireworks. I've built you a bonfire. All you have to do is light it... High res is here. If any of you would like to move the fire to a different location, there's a cutout version here. ![]() |

They won't have a chance to burn this lot. For the benefit of overseas members, these characters are Steptoe and Son, rag and bone men based in Shepherds Bush West London (Thanks Eva), the subject of a 1960's TV comedy. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 375: Light my fire
I'll never forget old Harold dropping a jar of pickled onions in his tin bath and then picking them out to eat; or the time he crimped an apple pie with his false teeth. Truly a 'dirty old man'! Magnificent series and a good image Nick. _________________ You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice. |

Thanks Gordon. Thought I'd better do a proper one. I've used a shot of Old Warden (Shuttleworth College) taken in the summer. Nick ![]() |

Nice entries, Nick, perfect bonfire! I always claimed Steptoe and son as fellow West Londoners, though, weren't they from Shepherd's Bush? |

Hi Eva and thanks The Steptoe's lived in Oil Drum Lane, which was a fictional street in Shepherd's Bush. You're absolutely right, West London. I was getting mixed up with the Garnett's. Nick |

I have been trying to draw my own fire with limited success. This is as good as it gets! ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Challenge 375: Light my fire
I also had a go at incorporating a 'proper' bonfire into the scene. I haven't had a great deal of time to do this due to the time spent on drawing fire for the previous attempt. ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Challenge 375: Light my fire
Some nice fires here, I've noticed that staring at a video of a flickering fire can almost make you feel warm, but maybe that was just my laptop over heating.. Lovely warped animation there Anna! I was reading up on Guy Fawkes and was surprised to learn that he was never actualy burnt at the stake, in fact just before he was set to be hung, drawn and quartered, he jumped from the gallows and snapped his neck.. Lucky 'Guy'.. |
