Challenge 392: Rainy reflections
We've always taken the same approach to reflecting in rainy puddles as reflecting in glass here on the forum. But looking at a puddle the other day, it seemed to me that reflections in rippling puddles actually behave quite differently.

Can you take a look at a rainy puddle, if it rains over the next week, and see if you can produce a more convincing result than we've used before?

Starting image is here.

Steve asked us to have a look at rain puddles, well I have been working in South Wales this week and the rain down there resembles a tsunami.

Re: Challenge 392: Rainy reflections
This is my interpretation having Googled a vast number of puddles. It seems that water only needs distortion, if there is something to make it distort, i.e. wind, or the odd cat. If nothing, then water seems to act like a mirror and in some images there is a surprising equality of brightness between the water reflection and what is being reflected. My take on this is that you would not see through it, only perhaps at the edges where there is minimal depth. I have darkened the road and pavement to simulate where the water has drained away but the surface is still wet. Prepared to crash and burn on this one.

Are you going to show us Steve?
Nick

Re: Challenge 392: Rainy reflections
There's been no shortage of rain here lately. I went out earlier to check out the road. The rain was down to a drizzle and the road was still wet. I noticed that puddles had formed in the parts of the road that were slightly concave. The other thing I noticed was the abundance of potholes!!

Slightly off track here Steve - first water attempt -- nevertheless my initial try evolved into this -- besides all of our puddles over here are frozen { brrrrr} --
Cheers

Enjoying all your images folks.
Nice dancers Doug, Bayer and Garfileld. Reminds me of Elton John's Tiny dancer written by Bernie Taupin, especially Doug's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP6kSnvEIpM&feature=related
I'm still away, so difficult to do PS for me for a week or two after the laptop died even though the replacement seems quite good.
Doug, camper-van!, try a tent while cycling in the rain . We just have good excuse for great food after and rush back to tents.
Enjoy it, sounds great......

Re: Challenge 392: Rainy reflections
Found a bit of time for this week's challenge.
When I looked at the puddle outside my house I noticed that the reflections were very clear except in a couple of places where the wind had whipped up quite a chop on the surface - ruffling it a lot. I have tried to make my reflections like this - but I may have buried them in the rain!
