Challenge 520: Platform Zero
I took a train from King's Cross Station, in London, this week. Now King's Cross is well known to Harry Potter fans as being the location of Platform 9¾, and the station's managers have even gone so far as to build a platform sign together with a trolley embedded in the wall.

What interested me, though, is that the platforms are numbered from 1 upwards, from right to left. When an additional platform was added to the right of Platform 1, they had no logical choice but to call it Platform 0.

Here's a shot of the platform with a somewhat ghostly white train waiting to depart - but what sort of spooky transportation might we imagine on such an unlikely platform?

High res is here.

Yes, this happened as part of the recent refurbishment and I was also puzzled why they used zero for the new platform. I suppose they would have had to renumber the other 11 platforms, so makes sense. Only electrics can use this one, as the line sits right under the station offices.

With apologies to Robert Krasker for playing fast and loose with some of the most wonderfully atmospheric black and white photography I have ever seen.

When I did my first image I thought it was a nice touch to leave the modern fluorescent lighting as a contrast to the sewer. Coming back to it fresh today I am not so sure. So here's a non fluoro version as well. The agonies of indecision .........
