Challenge 521: The empty booth
I'm indebted to Sara J Rawland for this week's photograph, which shows an empty booth. Sara reckons the stall is selling hats, but I'm not so sure - those could be shoes, or handbags, or dog pillows... What do you think? Can you add some customers to make sense of these curious objects? And what's to be done with those legs next door? High res is here. ![]() |

I'm so please you chose one of my photos!. I should have really cheated and gone back after the Fair had opened and taken a snap with the booth full. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

Unfortunately, I have a feeling I won't have the energy to work on this the rest of the week. Whatever faults in this submission will have to stay. Also, Princess parties might be just an American thing so most of you might not get the joke here. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

You have had fun, Darren. I have found my avatar, although I seem to be in the junk/misc box! Now I am going back to see what else I can find. Angela _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Not happy with a couple of the people but it is a rush job tonight so it will have to go as it is. ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

What is she selling? Is it a hat? An infinity scarf? An area rug? Beats me. I also couldn't figure out the image in the mirror at the back. Where is Sara and her camera? ![]() |

Ah, Daniel, don't you know I'm magical? Actually, I don't know why I didn't show up in the back mirror. OMG! maybe I'm a vampire! Sara _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 521: The empty booth
The first entry this week was from Vibeke, and it's an astonishingly convincing piece of work: the scale, poses, lighting and arrangement of all the characters is exactly right. I can't see any clues in here that this is a montage, it looks wholly realistic. Fantastic, Vibeke! I've never heard of princess parties so I may be missing something in srawland's entry. I like the banner, though, and the clever reflections in all the mirrors - and the fact that the hat stands are festooned with tiaras. What's the hedge hiding? A huge dollop of nostalgia from Darren, with a load of old Challenges thrown in there: the man from the plane Challenge looks particularly good on that chair. Great to see so many members' avatars worked in here, too - a really nice touch. I could only find 16 Challenges and 11 avatars... still looking! What a good puzzle! A great barber shop from Emy, making full use of that mirror for the perfectly placed reflection. I like the cut hair on the ground: maybe add a few wigs to the hat stand? Three cheerful women from Garfield72, who seem to be enjoying the sale - despite the fact that there appears to be nothing left to sell. Could the woman in green do with a reflection in that mirror behind her? A beautifully decked out tent from tooquilos, which reminds me of a lavatory (toilet/restroom/whatever) I once visited in a hotel in Nice, France: ![]() Some great effects in the animated version - love the twinkly candles - and what a fine collection of both hats and furniture! Love it. I was very amused by brewell's "capitalislam" - now that's a portmanteau word I hadn't heard before! Designer incendiaries indeed. Very clever, if a little, er, inflammatory. An terrific entry from Ben Mills, who has stripped the tent bare - a truly remarkable achievement! And I like the fact that the man next door now has a companion. Really well done, Ben. A sales fight from Frank, with four shoppers slugging it out. But there appears to be nothing on the shelves left to buy! Would the composition work better, perhaps, if they weren't all in a line? Perhaps the pair on the left could move back slightly? A remarkable and sedate scene from Mariner, with a fine array of hats bedecking the stands and three women examining each other. The woman in white neatly avoids the problem of a mirror reflection! But us the little girl just too little? She does seem awfully small, even for a child. A good set of shoppers from puffin31939, who all fit very neatly into the scene. Clever turning the mirror into a sign! A very neat arrangement: perhaps you need some more hats still on offer on those stands? Just two shoppers from Daniel Millar, but they do fill the tent very neatly. I like the colourful extras. And yes, you're right about the original image - Sara, where's your reflection? Good entries this week, and many thanks to Sara for providing the entertaining starting image. |
