Challenge 522: Welcome to Scotland?
On 18 September, the people of Scotland will go to the polls to decide if the territory remains part of the United Kingdom, or splits away to become a wholly independent country. It's a major political event, which will have far-reaching consequences for both countries.

If the vote is for independence, how might the people of Scotland change their border with England? Will they still welcome visitors in the same friendly way, or can we expect more of a border presence? Show me a glimpse into a possible future.

High res is here, thanks to David P on Wikimedia Commons.

Oh yes, I heard about this yesterday on the radio. What happens if Wales decides to split off too? You won't be able to call yourselves the United Kingdom anymore. What a development!

Ha ha ha. Yes, they will be very silly. In our industry (plumbing, heating, bathrooms) there are huge manufacturer's making plans to move to England if the 'YES' vote wins. RBS have already stated that they'll move to England. I can't help but think that this is all a little bit 'agitational propaganda' given that there is so much more pressing issues in the world.

Anyways, really like your ps work x

How apt! May as well just deep fry it... only joke. Food for thought (pun intended).

Thanks Steven. I'm taking a break from web this weekend. In much need of a PS fix.

Wales and England are close. Cheshire (where I'm from) has always had a good relationship with North Wales and I know London has close bonds with Wales in general. Can't see that happening. The majority of business owners in England really aren't concerned. The business owners in Scotland are. Most of the people voting 'yes' don't really know the repercussions it will have for them. England are at a win win as we know what happened with ROI going into the Euro.
I, personally, think they'll be silly to go independent as it really won't affect us nor the rest of the world. x

This is not indicative of the way I feel about the upcoming poll.

I sense there is some controversy surrounding this issue and I don't want to be seen taking sides. It's none of my business, and I will remain, like Switzerland, neutral. However, Steve did challenge us to submit an entry envisioning a post-split world. This is more a reflection of our dangerous, terrorist-afflicted times than on Scotland's hospitality. And once again, I am forced into a rush job as I will not have time this week to work on this any more.
