Challenge 552: Bletchley Park
I was on the train last week as it passed through Bletchley Park rail station. Bletchley was the home of the British codebreakers during WWII (the setting for the film The Imitation Game), and at the time the station would have been thronged with bright, crossword-solving young people recruited from around the country. Bletchley station today, however, has been thoroughly vandalised/modernised to the extent that not a shred of its historical past remains. Can you show how this station might have looked in the 1940s? High res is here.  |

I suspect this is going to be easier for Brits who actually remember what BR stations used to look like. I'll be honest Steve, I didn't really enjoy this one. Problem is that, as you point out, there is not a shred of the origins left, so the challenge becomes simply "Can you build me a wartime station to match this perspective?". Doesn't really light my fire. Anyway here is my best go at it, featuring a man I suspect we might see quite a bit of this week.  Untitled by davidmac1943, on Flickr

David that is bloody marvellous: you matched all the criteria required so quickly.  I can see Steve giving you some of his commercial workload when he's snowed under, as you can deliver!
As for me I'm having to resort to the sub-article 2 paragraph 7 bit to get my interpretation in.
Just to give everyone an idea of what Bletchley railway station looked like The first image is Bletchley Park form WW2, and the second image is Waterloo during WW2.

Marvellous. I looked and looked and didn't find one. 
I was preparing a quip about the possibility of Waterloo making an appearance when I scrolled down .... and there it was!! 
Thank you for your kind words. Despite this not being my favourite challenge I can remember stations like the one I created vividly. Especially the cindery, smokey smell! Also I love working in black and white. It's what I grew up with and started work with. .......... Yes very clever. I really didn't get the connection until that last wipe. David, the first error was that trying to board a train on the platform nearest to you would be impossible without a little bridge from the platform to the train (left-hand side in the image): the track nearest to you is way in the middle; therefore, by enlarging the platform (left-hand corner) I overcame that problem. 2nd problem/error is that the rail-tracks at stations with steam are dirty and oily, but the tracks I used along with the train came from the countryside: nice and clean. I anticipated teacher would immediately pick up on these points as he invariably does.
