Challenge 660: Rising from the ashes
It has been suggested that we ought to do a Challenge to commemorate the return of the Forum, but I think anything that directly references the hacker responsible would lead to too much gore (I'm looking at you, David) or too many explosions (that's you, Michael S) or too many girls in bikinis (Ben, it's something of a theme of yours).

So instead I'd like you to produce a phoenix. Now I know these mythical birds are often portrayed as rising out of flames, and I know you could all do a good fiery job with this - and there are plenty of great examples online. But according to legend, the phoenix rises from the ashes of destruction, not the fire itself.

How might that be achieved? You'll have to draw your own phoenix, or at least modify an existing bird, so no starting images this week.

Again on the stage. The show must go on. "The fire bird" of Igor Strawinsky...

I am sort of speechless too. As ever it is the tiny details that impress me in your work. The disassembly of the second photograph of the ruins into layers to obtain proper parallax is particularly well done. It's very subtle and many people simply wouldn't have bothered. Great flames too!

Thank you David. Dissecting that image to create the parallax was the most time consuming aspect of this animation. Without it, the scene is flat and looks like you have just zoomed in. The flames were relatively simple..I have a plug in that creates sabres, so its just a matter of tweaking the parameters to form the randomness of the flames.

This illustrates to perfection the difference between the hackers and members of the forum; they destroy while we create beautiful pieces like this. Lovely work Anna.
