Challenge 746: Epstein's Torso
On a visit to Tate Britain yesterday I was once again entranced by Jacob Epstein's 1915 sculpture Torso in Metal. Then I read the curator's description:

Can you show me how this fine piece would have appeared in its original form? Or, this being the Forum, ignore my instructions entirely and do whatever the hell you want with it?

High res is here.

Not an entry this but couldn’t resist sharing a couple of projects I have done with old industrial drills. Before and after shots of a standard lamp + a couple of others I have done on flickr

Steve, your comments at the end cracked me up.

Jez Ant, you've made some stunning stuff. Very interesting. I hope you're passing the trade on to the younger generation. You can teach them how to tap a thread in exchange for info on a cell phone..

That was quick Lwc. Well done. Drilling with the middle bit.

Aha ..... PAR64's ...... The great standby rock and roll lamp from days past. I have lit many a music show with those.

Re: Challenge 746: Epstein's Torso
I was really surprised by the original which looks like something from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" - yet precedes it by twelve years or so.

Only time for a quickie this week. Here's a cuddlier version.

Nice entries so far, love your work Tony - very imaginative and nicely done:
Steve says " ignore my instructions entirely and do whatever the hell you want with it? " I don't usually do this but here goes;

...and the third and final.

I didn't plan to make another animation, but I simply couldn't decide on which single non-animated version to post.

Lovely stuff. Great imagination. That robot must surely have a crick in the neck. It really fits so naturally into some of your images.

Im with you on that one Loyd. I was thinking to myself earlier when I was looking at the images this week. We all see the same thing but we interpret it so differently. Fascinating to see where people's mind go. David's image of the elderly ladies on the bench..that is just so endearing..In a lifetime, I don't think I could of thought of that. Just wonderful.

Me too! Love it. An Epstein "Wall-E" without the charm but lots more fireworks!

Thank you for the kind comments Anna.

Hate to ask a rude question but did you create the splendid wheeled base or is it a 'find'?

Re: Challenge 746: Epstein's Torso
This is definitely NOT a success. But I spent so much time and work getting it wrong I thought I might as well post and be damned.

With apologies to Sir John Tenniel.
