Challenge 828: On the deck
I dropped into a service station on a motorway in France this summer, back in the days when we were still able to travel there. One wall was taken up with a plate glass window, beyond which was this bare wooden deck with a curious round structure to one side. The whole effect is depressingly bleak, and not helped by this sign on the railings, which is just too small to read: ![]() How would you make this view more visually appealing for diners? Here's the full deck. High res is here. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 828: On the deck
Little effort was needed for this 'quickie', I already had the plant, character cutouts and bi-plane animation. By pure coincidence I made the drone animation a couple of days ago for some future use. That 'future use' occurred much sooner than expected. ![]() Now I will have to make another considering the 'added brief'.... ![]() |

Re: Challenge 828: On the deck
My intention, after last weeks marathon, was to do a very simple 'quickie'. In the end these little critters proved quite hard to make and it took far longer than it should for bit of pure silliness. ![]() A word of explanation may be needed for some of you. The sign Steve showed in close up "Pêche Interdite" means "Fishing Forbidden". However the French word "pêche" also means "peach" or "catch" (in the fishing sense). Change the accents and "péché" means "sin" and the verb "pécher" is "to sin". Used in conjunction with "gourmandise" it means "gluttony" and with "mignon" means, in the food context, "a sweet tooth". Knowing Steve likes puns I thought the double meaning of "pêche" could be fun. From left to right our peachy demonstrators signs read: "Interdire les pêches ..... c'est de pécher." "To forbid peaches ..... is to sin!!" "Les belles pêches sont une bonne pêche!" "Beautiful peaches are a good catch!" "Pour les vrais gourmets, les pêches ne sont pas le péché de la gourmandise, mais tout simplement un péché mignon." "For true gourmets peaches are not gluttony they are simply a sweet tooth." Yes ........ well ......... time to return to nerds corner. Oh, by the way, I was delighted and entertained to discover that the peach's natural shape makes for a perfect back view!! ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 828: On the deck
I'm killing two birds with one stone here: firstly, I thought i would point out the incongruity of a man in strong sunlight on a completely cloudy sky (Ben Mill's entry): either the sky has to be replaced with a sunny sky or the man must go! Moreover, if the man stays (as is the case here), there must be a shadow also. Any further or subsequent group of people has to take its lighting cue from the original which in this case has very strong shadows on the right. Following Ben's tradition, I have put in two dolly girls as an addition. Secondly, given the amount of time I have put into this (several hours), I have decided to make it my first entry. ![]() ![]() |

I thought I'd try my hand at shadows this week. I genuinely don't know if I got it right or if I failed dismally. Let's see what Friday brings ![]() Fabulous entries this week. Michael Mariner - such a beautiful scene. I could certainly spend an afternoon or two there. Loyd the Pizza Wagon is terrific! David, the peaches are hilarious. I can see a spin off tv series starring them ! http://vimeo.com/470503652 ![]() _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Re: Challenge 828: On the deck
Nice rich effects Anna ![]() Loyd, I love your Fish & Chip van, but your last but one entry desperately needs the The Shadows and Highlights tool ![]() Michael great shadow work: it shows great delicacy. After two days work and 44 frames which have the croc and its adjustments all individually cut out (although hundred layers), and thousands of adjustments, I have completed my first and last experimental work following those lines. ![]() ![]() |
