Challenge 841: Cruising Club
I came upon this rather dilapidated boat during a walk along the Regent's Canal recently. The legend St Pancras Cruising Club is painted along the side.

Mariner, of course, will want to restore this vessel to its former glory. But for the rest of you - how can you improve this facility on a limited budget?

High res is here.

Well now Steve, that rather depends on finding an earlier photograph, or I wil just have to invent something.

[EDIT] What a dark and miserable picture this is!

Interesting. Although I sailed dinghies in my youth, what I know about boats is minimal.

St Pancras implies canal and that's a canal long boat next to it. The big question is was this self powered? It looks more like a tow barge although the access hatches at the stern could imply an engine.

Hmmmm ..... ?

I've taken this image down. Not up to scratch.

Re: Challenge 841: Cruising Club
The St Pancras Cruising Club arranges a special dinner trip to help finance the restoration of their old barge.

And that's quite enough for one night - I'm off to bed!

I just love this. The breathing elephant is beautifully done.

Re: Challenge 841: Cruising Club
Thanks David! Was fun to make... I made the pelican animation nearly three years ago and have been waiting for just the right challenge to use it. I've used the elephant idea once before and it worked well then.

Not quite sure about Pelicans in St. Pancras.

But the Regents Park zoo is very close by so perhaps it's an escapee.

Late 19th century. Many, many long years of hard work and service lie ahead before final retirement and acquisition by the club.

Re: Challenge 841: Cruising Club
The Pelican is from St. James Park... There are thousands of Pelicans and Seagulls within five miles of my house. To be honest, I didn't realize that Pelicans were not common to the UK.

Steam-shovel is a great idea... I need to do more in B&W.

Apologies to Josephine and Michael for both plagiarism and outright theft. Seeing your two images one immediately after the other triggered the thought ........

.... and I couldn't get rid of it.

That was a lovely restoration Michael. Clean, but not factory fresh. Very believable. Josephine I loved the faded peeling Union Jack in yours.
