Challenge 842: The engineer's office
It's back to the Cambridge Museum of Technology this week, with a wander through the machine rooms. Downstairs and on this floor are the steam pumps; in front of us is the office from which the Engineer oversaw everything. I imagine back then the scene was a lot less antiseptic than it is now. High res is here. ![]() |

I can't see an animation in this one yet, but I did find a very old but damaged photograph... ![]() ![]() |

Very funny David. ![]() I have just completed my "Labour of Hercules" and I think it's my best animation yet: it took me two days to complete (it had to bw extricated from a solid yellow/orange background as well as providing all the background including the railway track the fast train runs very smoothly. I ask you to visit the Readers page for a treat. ![]() |

Frank I am impressed. I found this one very difficult. The rat is perhaps a tad too cute? ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 842: The engineer's office
Didn't enjoy this as much as last week. Surprisingly difficult. An awful lot of work for very little gain. ![]() Getting rid of that damn wire netting was a real killer! ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 842: The engineer's office
David, you clearly put a lot of work into this; however, it's spoilt by the "Egor and Oleg " cardboard cut-outs. Therefore, a little more contrast and sharpening will make them more part of the scene. ![]() The problem with this type of image that Steve has provided, is that he imposes a severe limitation on what one can do; consequently this impacts on "motivation": I don't want to spend 12 hours on something that is almost impossible to make any significant difference to the outcome! ![]() |

Re: Challenge 842: The engineer's office
Yes. I think that's very fair comment. They do look a bit like life-size flat cut outs! ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I think this works better with the very posed looking people. Monsieur Sinclair's comments heeded. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

This one was very challenging. I had no idea what to do until I heard the Stevie Nicks song "Rooms on Fire" on Spotify over the weekend...it was straight sailing after that ![]() David, you did well finding and placing Egor and Oleg ![]() http://vimeo.com/506929012 ![]() _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

Re: Challenge 842: The engineer's office
Funny how sometimes something like that pops out of the blue! Nicely done. He's a very cool headed fellow under the circumstances! The fire in the office is particularly fine.
In terms of sheer work I made two big booboos. Opening the door of the office and removing the child netting. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
