Challenge 859: Johann Friedrich the Magnanimous
I spent a short time in London's National Gallery yesterday afternoon, and came across this portrait of Johann Friedrich, who was the Elector of Saxony in the 16th century. Here he is painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder in 1509, at the age of six.

Poor kid. How could anyone have a decent childhood dressed like that. Can you put him in some more age-appropriate clothing?

High res is here, and there's a close-up of his head if you want it here.

His parents probably wanted a girl.

Thanks for all the fine banners you have done Loyd.

A special thanks this week to David, who doesn't normally do banners.

And yes a huge thanks to Loyd for his always entertaining banners. It's a format I have always found rather difficult.

Thanks Michael and David for your banner comments, I have found them fun to make. I'm still surprised that during this pandemic with lockdowns that many of you have not made some banners. I'm sure that Steve would appreciate some new efforts...

Now for first impression silliness... not even close to being 'on brief', but it was my first thought... a real 'quickie'.

HaHaHa! Alfred E Newman!

That's takes me back over sixty years. The fly is just perfect.

Great originality Loyd, and if you follow the "spirit" of the general intention, then you're on brief--so keep em comin.

More first impression silliness. Perhaps this is in the "spirit" Michael is referring to. It's certainly not on brief but it just seemed to not want to be ignored. I would love to claim credit for this but, truth to tell, it was my better half, Ingrid, who came up with the idea ...... and I loved it.

Johann E. Newman, I'll have you know...!!! And the 'fly' was supposed to be a cockroach... obviously not a very good one!

David, Ingrid's idea is perfect... very clever, love it!

Very nice. One the problems I've been having on the entry I am working on is hair or no hair. It fit perfectly here.

Adding Alfred to Johann is perfect Loyd - but that playing card, David, is ingenious. Well thought of Ingrid

A couple of the images of Johann in the video are of other paintings I found of him when he was a bit older.

Well done Anna!

I must admit that I find "Johann at 3 months" a bit 'creepy'...

Sweet Child of Mine from Anna. Excellent. I suspect Anna is in there somewhere, but I must confess I can't spot her, unless she is in row 2, fourth from the left.

If Anna is in the shot I would go for second row down at far left … or second pupil in from right … or maybe somewhere else

This is somewhat off-brief but I found myself going down this road and found that I couldn't do a U turn

I haven't really pulled this off. But I had such fun doing it that I really don't care.

You need to enlarge and move around a bit.

Gordon, real slapstick humour there. I loved to see the bubble burst in his face!
