Challenge 911: Emergency Services
This week's Challenge is in honour of the fact that it's the 911st Challenge and 911 is the American emergency phone number. I didn't want to wait for the 999th Challenge for this, although by the time that comes around I may well have forgotten about this one and do it all over again.

When I broke my knee on a Paris street in 2016, a passer-by announced she was going to call the Sapeurs-Pompier. Never a language to use one word when they can use two, I remembered this as being the French for fireman. I protested weakly that I wasn't on fire, but it seems that in France the fire service run many more ambulances than the medical service, and fire fighters are also trained paramedics.

Which seems like a good idea to me.

Here's a Scottish fire engine, neatly opened up so we can see its storage facilities. How would you adapt it to carry patients?

That's very well placed, Ben.

Got a busy week this coming week. This challenge was challenging! But I enjoyed it. I tried to match the font but it's the closest I could get. Does anyone know what it is?

I think you are very close, Anna. I used Ariel Bold which is a close match.

Re: Challenge 911: Emergency Services
Well it's been a hetic week at planning ships so I battled to find time to do this challenge. Not quite finished. I wanted to try and have the ambulance appear as a cut-away image. I would have enjoyed populating the image more to.

Nice work everybody.

Re: Challenge 911: Emergency Services
First to modify this week’s fire engine was Ben Boardman, with a complex accident scene. An ingenious way of slotting the patient into the back compartment, with near perfect perspective matching. Very fine work, Ben, and I agree that the brighter version does work better.

A glorious modification from tooquilos, with a wheelchair and even a dead body stacked on top of the fire engine (although I do question those self-standing crutches). I like the new interior, with its somewhat short bed. The font, incidentally, I think is Avenir Next (which now comes with Photoshop). You can always check out fonts on WhatTheFont. Vimeo won’t let me watch the video - says I’m unauthorised! And when I try to open it in Firefox it says the page doesn’t exist. Have you changed the Privacy settings?

The firefighter in lwc's entry seems far too interested in posing for the camera than to bother trying to put out what appears to be a significant blaze behind him. Or maybe he’s just trying to attract the attention of the strippagram nurse? A clever mod, all the same. I like the animated sparks especially.

Beautiful work from Vibeke, who has correctly interpreted that the fire engine wouldn’t be wide enough to take a patient sideways and has rebuilt the interior to manage a lengthways compartment. Perfect perspective, I really like the fact that you’ve made use of the already open door at the back, and that it’s set in the Scottish highlands. My only query is how she managed to get the stretcher in there all by herself - must have been a bumpy start.

A multi-purpose vehicle from Ant Snell, and it’s the mortuary section that really tickled me. I like the bride leaning out of the cab as well. Now that really is a cost-saving exercise.

Neat stretcher storage from Frank, the rear door presumably leading to an interior patient storage compartment - and in cooperation with a Swiss ambulance service, I notice. A good setting, against that fearsome blaze.

It’s a move to the Louvre for Mariner, with a man in serious pain being maltreated by a bunch of amateur paramedics. Those are some curious shadows, Michael, and the fire engine doesn’t match the perspective of the background buildings. Those rear steps look like a trip hazard!

Fine lighting from dwindt, with what looks like a hand-built interior to the fire engine. I hope you get the change to finish this, it looks like it has the makings of a really interesting image.

Thanks, Steve. I didn't do justice to this one as I was rather busy this week.

Re: Challenge 911: Emergency Services
Thank you Steve. So many unfinished projects. I spent some time last night, working on a doc for the interior but my system was up to it's favorite tricks again. It would have been a welcome addition but my system froze on rendering.
