Challenge 932: Le Voyage Gourmand
I spent last weekend in my favourite French seaside town of La Rochelle, but because of a dispute between France and the EU over subsidies to Ryanair, they no longer fly there and I had to go via Nantes.

Nantes Airport is not a pretty one. Liberally sprinkled around it are many of these vending machines, each labelled Le Voyage Gourmand.

Now I know the difference between a gourmand and a gourmet (quantity versus quality), but I can’t believe any self-respecting Frenchman would consider the offerings from this machine to represent a meal in any way.

How would you improve its culinary offering?

High res is here.

A dog's dinner! How very appropriate and clever.

(It's a miniature clone of Gordon so they can install these machines everywhere!)

Oh la la Dwindt - this is supposed to be France not Amasterdam
Love Frank's Moet dispenser - lwc your lady looks suspiciously like a fortune teller and as she is selling hot dogs I am guessing she is divining from entrails

Re: Challenge 932: Le Voyage Gourmand
First to turn gourmet this week was GKB, with an ingenious duplication of the vending machine. Good perspective and splendid contents, although I’d question the wisdom of preserving trifle at the same temperature as roast beef. And you do need to glaze that window:

Good to see some children’s entertainment in the second entry, and it does slot in well next to the vending machine. There’s something curiously two-dimensional about Punch and Judy, though. Is it a question of shadows?

It’s a dog’s dinner for lwc, in one of the subtlest animations I’ve seen from you. I do like the mournful nodding of the head. The fortune teller in the second entry is most appealing, and that hot dog looks almost… edible.

Fantastic work from Frank, whose Moet & Chandon branding has a real gold sheen to it (and a great slogan). A perfect composition, Frank, overall an immaculate job. And thanks for the new banner!

I like how Born2Run has squeezed Gordon Ramsey into the booth. Nicely done, and I like the subtle alteration of the title. I’d consider changing the angle of the left side of that chopping table, though:

It looks like dwindt may be confusing Nantes with Amsterdam - but it’s beautifully done, and I’m especially impressed by the reverse angle reflection. Is that a row of condoms at the bottom? Good work, although one inaccuracy: as Mariner has often complained, I don’t travel with a camera and only take pictures on my iPhone.

It’s pizza time from Ben Boardman - and what a packed image this is! The robot pizza maker, the menu, the robot serves, the smiling customer… excellent. One observation: you can’t use a Drop Shadow style in front of a 3D surface. That’s not how shadows work.

A vintage French patisserie from Josephine Harvatt, its shelves groaning with tasty morsels. Amazing how much you’ve crammed onto each shelf! And a beautiful title.

A glorious boulangerie from Ant Snell, with piping hot baguettes being slid out of the oven. The added steam really ties it together well, and the baker is at precisely the right position. Excellent.

Mariner's Croque Monsieur is a fitting way to conclude this week’s offerings, and a cute pun. I like the rebuilt airport, and that reflection works well - except, of course, the croc should be leaning the other way. Otherwise spot on.
