Challenge 980: The busking bassist
I saw this double-bass busker outside King's Cross station recently, and he was extraordinarily good. He played along to a backing track, though. I'd love to have seen him with a live band. And perhaps a more appropriate venue.

High res is here.

So did you offer him a job with Bedlam?

After last week I am taking it very easy this week.

DUET WITH A TRUE GIANT.

Been listening to him while I do this. Wonderful! If you don't know who it is then shame on you!

Very jazzy. Even his Blues is jazz. I'm a Blues boy. Nicely blended image though.

Very nice Ant. I think Bedlam and/or Steve may be putting in more than one appearance this week.

Re: Challenge 980: The busking bassist
This bass is NOT photoshopped

Well yes it is .......... but not in the way you think. The bass I have given our player is an octobass and it is shown here at its real size!

Although only a few have ever been made it is a genuine classical instrument. The player stands on a platform so he can reach a set of levers at the base of the neck which operate mechanical pads which 'stop' the strings way above his head at what would normally be the left hand finger placements.

You can find out more here.

At 69 I'm currently having had and having some health issues. The two courses of antibiotics have for the time being, wrecked my body. I, however, was able to take my time and come up with an animation.

Please see newest entry

I hope you improve soon Michael. The hand movements are great but it's the bow tie that does it for me

David, You need a semi trailer to take that to venues, not to mention council approval to play music in the street. It's incredible. Haha

I thought I'd try Jay with another type of bass

If you would like to hear some of their music, try the web address on the marquee. This is across the road from last weeks coffee shop, on alternative Sundays.

Sorry to hear that Michael. No fun!

Like Anna I find the hand movements very good, particularly the left, but I find the jumping shadow a tad bizarre.

"I thought I'd try Jay with another type of bass" ........... A "C" bass?

Billy Boss on bass...crooning. As soon as I saw this, I thought of the Aristocats. I'll try not cheat later on in the week, time permitting.

Thanks everybody for your kind thoughts.

David, I have "subdued" the "jumping" shadow somewhat.

Re: Challenge 980: The busking bassist
We potentially have a good entry here which is spoilt by the lighter tone of our busker image no 1 shown here as Ben's original. If the busker is to be unadjusted then we must adjust the dark tones of the rest of image 2 to reflect a more convincing realism.

Option 3 in image 3 is to darken our busker to match the original dark hues shown in image 1.

Finally, remember the lighting of any added selection can make or break the natural realism of an image/photo.

Hi Michael, Thank you for the feedback, The background is one of my own images, taken at preservation Hall, the busker is being illuminated by one of the stage spots - the one casting the shadow onto the bass - that was my intention.
He is wearing a shirt because of the club dress code.

Michael

Like the new shadow better in your animation.

Your suggestion to Ben is quite correct, particularly the darker version but, in all fairness, it was very acceptable as it was. There is no reason to suppose the lighting is the same on each player.
