Challenge 1048: Open the safe
Last weekend my band played for a wedding held at the Town Hall Hotel in Shoreditch, east London. It's a fascinating building – as the name suggests it's the former town hall, now converted into a very interesting hotel.

They've kept many of the original features of the building, including the council chamber (maybe next week). I was particularly interested in this display in the lobby, with an old wooden TV showing footage of the building as it was in the 1960s.

But what's that in the corner? A safe? Right in the lobby? Seems like it's asking for trouble having it in plain sight like that – an open invitation to any miscreant with a stick of gelignite or a crowbar.

Of course, you'll have to move the chair out of the way first.

High res is here.

Judging by the size of that safe, a crowbar and a stick of gelignite would barely scratch it.

Then you’ll have to be more inventive…

Acid, David? I suppose you could pour it into the lock.
Maybe you could smash down the wall and move a heavy crane in, but I won't be doing that.

Loyd, I always get a giggle from your twitching foreground dogs ........nice to see one back after a while.

I'd forgotten all about him Ant. Very appropriate.

That door is really impressive Ben! It looks so simple, but everything about it is exactly right! The multiple rebates, slightly scratched on the corners, are in perfect perspective and the textured reflections and rivets are completely convincing and perfectly indicate its age.

Just impeccably done!

Now .............. just to be a little bit naughty and provocative ......... wouldn't some shiny(ish) steel bolts in the side of the door make it absolutely flawless!

Nice light on the burglar Frank.

Yes Ant's entry is based on a series of British TV commercials from the seventies. Just google 'All because the lady loves milk tray" you'll see what his entry is about.

One thing I have discovered about my retirement is that I now have severe cash flow problems. Sometimes drastic solutions are required.

Thanks David.
Watched a couple of Milk tray ads - now understand Ant's entry.
Nicely done again on your retirement fund - however I'm afraid it has diminished drastically after Trumps ridiculous tariffs fiasco.
