Challenge 1088: The Great Dictator
More from the Chaplin museum, this time a reconstructed still from the 1940 classic The Great Dictator. In this exhibit you're encouraged to have your photograph taken with CC apparently trimming your hair. Can you suggest a dictator who might benefit from some tonsorial manipulation? High res is here. |

Steve, is Charlie Chaplin a distant relative of yours? I have often wondered. |

Not as far as I know! Although I imagine my uncle Charles Caplin might have suffered for it in his youth. |

It's going to be a while before I can do anything. My MAC Studio suffered a drastic slow down. I couldn't find a cause so eventually had to re-install the OS completely and restore from a time machine backup. Unfortunately it also restored whatever was causing the problem. So now I am having to do a "Nuke and Pave". Re-format and clean system install and all the software one by one along with re-registering and activating for each app. I am about half way there after a day and a half. On the bright side I've got rid of a lot of ancient dross! Fingers crossed I'll be fully restored by next week. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

http://vimeo.com/1155416121?fl=pl&fe=sh My fingers are crossed as well. I hope you can sort it out, David. This type of thing is my worst nightmare. ![]() _________________ Wicked Witch of the West:I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog, too! |

Yes, fingers crossed David. Did you run MAC diagnostics before you started on the drastic stuff? |

Yes. Ran a couple of diagnostics. Nothing found. Everything looked Ok on System Monitor with no visible memory or CPU hogs. The problem appeared to be mainly video related with redraws taking several seconds but other processes lagged badly too. Anyway it’s perfect now and i have all the ‘biggies’ re-installed. Now it’s a matter of restoring dozens of personal settings some of which were not exportable to an external drive for subsequent re-importation and will need to be re-built by hand. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1088: The Great Dictator
I'm having difficulty in choosing a dictator to use, so this one is with Paulette Goddard as seen in the original film. Hopefully I can find a worthy dictator before Friday. ![]() |
