Challenge 1093: The King's Bugatti
Last week saw a Ferrari Testa Rossa sell at auction for a record-breaking $243,864. It doesn't sound that much for a Ferrari, but this was a scaled-down child's car. It turns out people have been making scale replicas of sports cars for exactly 100 years, since Ettori Bugatti made a half-size replica for his four year old son in 1926. Here's Mohammed V, king of Morocco, with his son Hassan visiting the Bugatti factory. Neither seem particularly to be enjoying the experience. There must be a way to cheer them up. Now that's totally cheating...lol. I did do 20 minutes of PS. Does that qualify...lol.  _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

The other two kids in the photo are from a biscuit tin full of old 5” glass plate negatives I have, I have been meaning to do something with them for years.  |

The Château Saint Jean in Molsheim has represented the home of Bugatti since the 1920s. Purchased by the marque's founder, Ettore Bugatti, in 1928, it has hosted honored guests, customers and racing drivers from around the world. |

Sometimes, the king would drive his prize possession into the field beyond the palace garden and admire it's beauty, away from any disturbances. I tried searching for this vehicle, to no avail, so I reproduced a rough copy of what I believed it looked like and then prompted it in ai. I then manipulated the result, piece by piece, until I fitted the profile of the classic in the photo. Is the brief photo a scam. Study it's lines and seams and the vehicles perspective...plus more... and you'll understand what I mean. It was a difficult task but I enjoyed the challenge.

Dennis, I am very impressed by your first picture and the work you put into it. I am doing something similar, but with a different model of car and no AI. In yoiur sectond picture you need to renovate that pedal car and put smiles on both of their faces. |

Thank you Mariner. I didn't want to spend to much time on the picture with King and son pedal car as the pedal car was an earlier ai cheat. The King's Bugatti (I thought more like a Bentley); took over 120 layers to complete. I have however, studied the pedal car and yes, thank you. There were some careless slip-ups. OH dear. I attempted to correct the front left head light. Now I see that I could have made it wider to compensate for the perspective change. I used the right head light, made that higher but not wider...lol. No more.  _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Dennis never mind the headlight , it's barely noticeable. The pedal car looks believable now, and these two don't smile much when in public - I know, I searched for quite a while. Well done! |

Lol...I never bothered to search for them. I colorized their figures and used liquify and the smudge tool to get a slight smile on their face. I searched extensively for the Bugatti. Those that I found never resembled the vehicle in the photo though. This is so not my challenge. Aside from a few glamorous classics of bygone days I have absolutely zero interest in cars. For me they are simply A to B machines. However one thing that is quite clear is this little marvel belongs on a race track. Here Mohammed is competing in the Settrington Cup. 
The Settrington Cup is a genuine annual event, described by one commentator as the most entertaining 1 minute 9 seconds in the motorsport calendar. It is hosted in the famous Goodwood Race track for drivers aged 6 - 9 racing in vintage collector's pedal cars. In addition to the drivers’ age restriction, the only pedal cars allowed are vintage Austin J40 models built by disabled coal miners beginning in 1949. (So Mohammed would not, in reality, have been allowed). The length of the race is only about 100 meters, but it is a long and gruelling test of endurance for the young drivers. And the British announcers describe the action as if the pedal cars were actual race cars. You can watch it HERE .
