Challenge 1128: Spooky time
Halloween is nearly upon us, and it happens that I chanced upon this abandoned graveyard last weekend in Bungay, north Norfolk.

How long will the dead remain buried?

High res is here.

On a day that the UK government warn us all to stock pile emergency supply’s in preparation for the worst, who needs a zombie apocalypse.

Not long ………..

........... but not quite in the way you intended …………..

I wanted to do something with a touch of the macabre, but to avoid the inevitable spookies. Quite lot of work. More than I expected. Finding source material was quite tricky as all the photos from that period tend to be rigidly posed looking straight into camera. The three I found and used are all colourised (by me by hand) from black and white.

Very nice David...!

We were on the same page with this one. But, you know me, quantity over quality every time. I was too lazy to use any images other than what I found. So in essence it is a 'quickie'...

And a lot of fun!

That's a very slim body he's got there. Or is he on his way home from a shopping trip to Carpet World?

Well done Dennis, I wouldn't even attempt something like that.

I made these Friday while trying to think of something to make as a viable entry... too many so I put them all into one slideshow.

Re: Challenge 1128: Spooky time
Dennis that's terrific! When I visit old ruins I often try to imagine how they must have looked when they were built.

I went to school in the 1950's in Devon, in the south west of England. There was an abbey nearby called Buckfast Abbey. The abbey church which had been destroyed was completely rebuilt between 1907 and 1938. So when I saw it in the fifties it was, by church standards, brand spanking new!

I can remember thinking this is 'wrong', it's far too clean and perfect! Then I realised that this was exactly how all the centuries old weathered and worn churches I was used to must have looked when they were freshly built. It seems so obvious when you think about it, but when you actually see it for yourself first hand, pristine and completely new, it comes as a real shock!

Thank you, David and Loyd.

So, the tower is complete. A few decades on and we have our first burial ceremony in the cemetery.

I couldn't get this image past an illustration style image. I really wanted to depict some type of mossy growth and wear and tear...so I ran it through ChatGPT. It rendered an appealing version of my image. The small size doesn't do it the justice it deserves.

I can understand totally what you were trying to do, the original is very pristine. But, to my eye, this hasn't really done what you wanted. I don't feel any "mossy growth and wear and tear" and it's starting to look a bit overcooked and post produced. I'm being super picky because you've already done an amazing job .......... but I don't feel this is moving it forward.
